Can Lightning Plug The Hole in the Sinking Playoff
Ship?
By Ted Fleming, Tampa Bay Sports Net
TAMPA - Now it's the "Big 3" on the same line.
For
a team that was supposed to be a threat to the Southeast Division title
in the National Hockey League, the Lightning have sure made everyone
else look good. That's what happens when you are looking up instead of
down.
It's
a good thing to look down on people in this case because the higher up
you are the better chance you have to run the table. Sadly, Tampa Bay is
losing interest in a team that is not far removed from hoisting the Holy
Grail of sports, the Stanley Cup...

Weekly: The NHL: Not Dead, Just Forgotten
It’s
a quarter of the way into the NHL season. Do you know where your local
hockey team stands? No? Well don’t feel so bad, apparently you’re not
alone. Hockey, unfortunately is on the decline. Once part of the “big
4” in sports along with the NFL, MLB, and NBA the NHL now finds itself
on the outside looking in as NASCAR, for all intents and purposes, has
replaced it in the big 4. The NHL, like so many other companies who
find themselves floundering, have for the most part no one to blame but
themselves.... more

Hello all, I know it has
been awhile and all I can hope for is that you don’t use a Darth Vader Force
grip on me to choke out an apology or try to zap me with some of my homey Darth

The Panthers have signed their top draft pick from last year, defenseman Keaton Ellerby, to a three-year, entry level contract.
Ellerby, 19, played 53 games last season for Moose Jaw of the Western Hockey League after being traded from Kamloops for prospect Brady Calla 16 games into the season.
Ellerby had two goals, 21 assists and a plus-6 rating with Moose Jaw. The 6-foot-4, 188-pound blue-liner, who has drawn some comparisons to Panthers' defenseman Jay Bouwmeester, was the 10th overall selection in the 2007 draft. Read more
"We've got to destroy them. We've got to be on them all the time and then we've got to hope for a break."
Zach Parise's power-play goal with 8:57 remaining snapped a tie and gave the United States a 6-4 victory over Germany in a qualifying-round game at the world hockey championship on Thursday night.
The Americans appeared to have the game in hand when they scored three times in the opening 2:52, but Germany chipped away at the lead.
Germany got even at 4 early in the third, but Parise of the New Jersey Devils put a shot over goalie Dimitrij Patzold for his second of the game. Dustin Brown sealed the victory with an empty-netter with 1:36 remaining. Read more
- The Dallas Stars have won the Fabian Brunnstrom sweepstakes, agreeing to terms on a two-year, entry-level deal with the Swedish forward.
The Montreal Canadiens, Detroit Red Wings and Toronto Maple Leafs were also in hot pursuit of the 23-year-old free agent, who went undrafted in the NHL.
"In the end there was no wrong decision for Fabian," his agent J.P. Barry of CAA Sports told The Canadian Press. "All the organizations were extremely professional in laying out the opportunity for him to play for their club. Dallas was involved from the beginning, and in particular (co-GM) Les Jackson did a good job overviewing the benefits of Dallas. Read more
