Sports Look: NBA top 20 Free Agents for the week of August
4th
The list of available free agents is starting to turn into
a ‘fill your roster’ type situation. Besides Josh Smith, Andre Iguodala and Ben
Gordon, each of the players in the top twenty are role players that will be
coming off the bench. Most of them can help a team though and could step in and
get starters minutes in case of injury. Look for more and more of these players
to start taking larger contracts overseas instead of the veteran minimum...

Aaron Rodgers was “The Guy” just a few weeks ago, but why? Maybe it was
because he boasts a record that Brett Favre cannot hold a candle to. No,
that does not seem to be the case. Well, maybe it is because Rodgers has 16
seasons with the Packers of guts and glory left on the fields of every NFL
team. Oops, that is not it either. So, what made Aaron Rodgers “The Guy”
all of a sudden, while Brett Favre was forced to continue practicing with a
high school team in Mississippi as if he were an accountant all of his life
and was suddenly begging the Packers for a walk on spot as the starting
QB?...

Welcome to the latest

heck he decided to come back and play now (see, I told you he
should’ve just stayed retired). Can we all just stop talking
about it and him now?...

MLB Insider: Chicago – Cuban Style…
Dogs Days of Summer… Rays’ Rock The House Mark Cuban is still alive, well and remains among the potential buyers
for the Chicago Cubs. Cuban survived the first cut of the original list of
10 prospective buyers to make the final five.
TheChicago Sun Times
reported that the Tribune Company which owns the franchise
acknowledged that the six remaining potential buyers all have submitted bids
of $1-billion or more. However, according to the Sun-Times Cuban is
not the favorite son of the MLB owners because of his outspoken ways. Case
in point, Cuban has been fined in excess of $1-million dollars for his
frequent criticism of NBA officials since buying the Mavericks in 2000

Speaking of Sports: TRS: The Real
Story Behind the Garza-Navarro Meeting The Tampa Bay Sports Net has in its possession the
conversations between Rays’ pitcher Matt Garza and catcher Dioner Navarro on
the mound, when Garza got a close-up look at what Navarro wears on his face,
in the dugout when they met again and in the runway leading to the visitor’s
clubhouse.
Without anyone’s knowledge, a
miniature microphone was cleverly embedded in the catcher's mask padding and
every word was heard across the Gulf of Mexico (when you are in an area
loaded with 1,000-5,000 watt radio stations, you know you can hear them
further out in the water to the west than you do over land to the east).
So without further adieu, TBSN brings
you the complete blow-by-blow from start to finish.

Thinking Out Loud: Going To Hell In
a Handbasket Almost a month ago I penned a piece about the entertainment at Tropicana
Field – (Rays Missing a Beat on In-house Fun) - and how the departure of
John Franzone, a.k.a John the Maestro, has left a huge void inside the
stadium.
Having been inside the House of the Tilted Roof this entire homestand, there
has been something else that has been gnawing at me but I just couldn't put
my finger on it until Sunday's homestand finale with the White Sox....

Out Loud: The Wacky World of the Steinbrenner’s
By: Ted Fleming, Tampa Bay Sports Net
Answer me this? How am I to explain
Hank Steinbrenner to my grandchildren?
It's bad enough that I raised a son
who became a Yankee fan - it was a Mets' household until I moved to Florida
to join BaysBall Nation, and the so-called smart one of the twins went to
the dark side (of New York blue) - but what's up with the new mouth of the
north?
It appears for all all intents and
purposes the little Hankie has all of his father's mouth but not the sense
of his brother Hal, the Quiet Man, a dozen years his junior.
Not one month into the season the
team's co-chairman effectively called his new manager an idiot....

The Armchair QB: A Way To Adjust The BCS Playoff
I took careful note of some of the positive things about the selection
process. They have a committee that selects the teams based on a set of
criteria. They have a “true playoff” in the form of the tournament and the
team that can win six games is crowned the champion. Could this format work
in college football. I believe it can and in the following article, I will
explain how this can be done.....
