Ravens use defense, catch by Flacco to top Raiders 29-10
Seven games into his professional career, Joe Flacco has already
done things some quarterbacks never accomplish.
The Baltimore Ravens rookie has thrown for touchdowns. He’s run for touchdowns.
And in Sunday’s 29-10 win over the Oakland Raiders, Flacco nearly stumbled into
the end zone after grabbing a 43-yard pass from backup quarterback Troy Smith.
“I trusted myself that if they threw it, I would catch it. I was hoping I would
catch it,” Flacco said. “I didn’t want to make a fool of myself.”
Using their own version of the single wing, the Ravens (4-3) inserted Smith at
quarterback and used Flacco as the wide receiver on the left side. Baltimore
coach John Harbaugh joked the formation was called the “Suggs Package,” a
reference to linebacker Terrell Suggs’ assertion that Smith should be the
starting quarterback...more

Preview:
The Baltimore Ravens and the Oakland Raiders halted their
respective three-game losing streaks last weekend. Now each club will be looking
to improve their positioning in their tightly bunched division races. The Ravens
and Raiders look to make it two wins in a row Sunday when they meet at M&T Bank
Stadium. Baltimore (3-3) opened the season with back-to-back victories for the
first time since starting 4-0 in 2006, but was unable to continue that success
and went on to lose three straight - a stretch capped by a miserable 31-3 defeat
at Indianapolis in Week 5, during which it allowed 334 yards...more
Pick:
While the Raiders can be scrappy and are coming off
a win, Baltimore just has too many weapons and appear to be back on track, plus
stick with the trend and wager heavily against a West Coast team flying
east. Particularly when it’s Al Davis’ crew of misfits Ravens 20 - Raiders 10
Notable:
Each team's defensive
coordinator is a Ryan Brother so young quarterbacks Joe Flacco and
JaMarcus Russel can expect to be swarmed every time they drop back.
