Westbrook runs for 2 TDs as Eagles beat Falcons 27-14
Brian Westbrook’s name popped up more in the Eagles’ injuries
reports lately than the postgame stat sheet.
A bum ankle. Broken ribs. Two missed games that buried his numbers well below
his career averages.
Tired of sitting in the training room, Westbrook was ready to run.
Westbrook returned to his All-Pro form and rushed for 167 yards and two
touchdowns as part of a dynamic all-around effort, and the Philadelphia Eagles
beat the Atlanta Falcons 27-14 on Sunday.
“He was dialed up,” said coach Andy Reid.
Westbrook missed two of the past three games with broken ribs and had been
bothered by an ankle injury. Perhaps rejuvenated by the bye week, Westbrook
rushed for nearly as many yards as he had all season (194).
The injuries still nagged him throughout the game, but Westbrook said, “those
are things you have to play through.”...

Preview:
Matt Ryan may be a local hero in Philadelphia, where the Atlanta
Falcons' rookie quarterback starred in high school on his way to becoming a
top-5 pick in this year's NFL draft. But with the last-place Eagles in need of a
victory and their blitz-happy defense among the league leaders in sacks, Ryan
isn't likely to get a warm welcome in his first professional game in his home
state. A pair of teams coming off byes will face off Sunday in Philadelphia,
where Ryan's Falcons will try for their third straight victory while the
hometown Eagles look to climb back into the NFC East race...more
Pick:
Forget Atlanta's record; they're 1-2 on the road,
and veteran offensive weapons Brian Westbrook and Kevin Curtis are back for
Philly in this one. Atlanta is no where near as good as their record and Philly
is not as bad. Eagles 34 - Falcons 10
Notable:
The Eagles are winning by an average of 12.6 ppg at
home. Philly is a dominant 4-0 SU and ATS in its last 4 home meetings
with the Falcons and 7-2 ATS in the last 9 overall. The bye week has
also treated the Eagles well historically at 15-5 ATS when playing with
2 weeks or more of rest since 1992. Philadelphia has been phenomenal
coming out of the bye week under HC Andy Reid, going 9-0 SU & 7-2 ATS
while allowing just 8.8 PPG
Matt
Ryan has been very impressive as the Falcons' rookie quarterback, but
expect Eagles defensive coordinator Jim Johnson to give him a tough test
with several exotic blitz packages. Matt Ryan is the first rookie QB
since the 1970 merger to start his team's first six games and win at
least four, but this figures as a difficult environment and tough
matchup for him
Donovan McNabb should get a boost from
the return of Brian Westbrook, and when he throws downfield, he will
burn the Falcons' overmatched corners for some key big plays

The Falcons put Ryan in a position to succeed by relying
