Rams shock Redskins with last
second 49 yard field goal to win 19-17

Josh Brown
kicked a 49-yard field goal on
the last play of the game
Sunday, giving the St. Louis
Rams a 19-17 upset of the
Washington Redskins to end an
eight-game losing streak over
two seasons and make Jim Haslett
a winner in his St. Louis head
coaching debut.
It takes a fluke play or two for
a winless, two-touchdown
underdog to pull off the
stunner. The Rams got one at the
perfect time in the first half
against the Redskins, then
pulled off the win in the final
minute with the help of a big
third-and-long pass.
The Redskins (4-2) overcame a
nine-point fourth-quarter
deficit and appeared set to win
their fifth straight game when
Clinton Portis’ 2-yard run with
3:47 left gave Washington a
17-16 lead. But the Rams had
enough time to mount a comeback,
and Marc Bulger hit Donnie Avery
down the right sideline for a
43-yard gain on third-and-13 to
move into field goal
territory...

Preview:
After getting through a tough early schedule, the surprising
Washington Redskins know the challenge for them now is to remain focused.
They'll try for a fifth straight win Sunday and look to avoid a letdown when
they host the winless St. Louis Rams, who will play their first game under new
coach Jim Haslett.
Under first-year coach Jim Zorn, Washington (4-1) faced three NFC East road
matchups in the season's first five games. After losing to the Super Bowl
champion New York Giants in Week 1, the Redskins have responded with four
straight wins, including two in a row within their rugged division.
Washington went into Dallas two weeks ago and handed the Cowboys their only
loss, 26-24, before an impressive comeback last Sunday at Philadelphia. The
Redskins fell behind by two touchdowns before rallying for a 23-17 win.

RAMS: Control
the ball on the ground and stop the run. Of course, that's any team's
plan, but even more so in this game as the Rams hope to keep the
pressure off QB Marc Bulger. The Rams have been a bad team on the road,
dating back to last season, so it will be intriguing to see how the team
plays in a physical matchup with Jim Haslett coaching his first game.
The Rams will have to show they can pass with the Redskins likely to
stack eight in the box to stop RB Steven Jackson...FULL

REDSKINS: The
versatility of Washington's offense was very evident last week in
Philadelphia. The Eagles took away WR Santana Moss, who had been the
chief weapon in victories over New Orleans, Arizona and Dallas. So coach
Jim Zorn and QB Jason Campbell turned to TE Chris Cooley (season highs
of eight catches and 109 yards) and RB Clinton Portis (season highs of
29 carries and 145 yards). Everything's clicking now for the No. 6
offense, which has yet to commit a turnover. The Redskins want to keep
the beleaguered Rams off balance this week...FULL
