Donovan McNabb
and the Philadelphia defense
wouldn’t allow a bizarre blocked
field goal to ruin an otherwise
dominant day.
McNabb passed for 280 yards and
two touchdowns without his top
two receivers and his best
running back. The Eagles’
aggressive defenders forced
three turnovers during a
23-point fourth quarter in
Philadelphia’s 40-26 victory
over the San Francisco 49ers on
Sunday.
Donald Strickland returned a
blocked field goal 41 yards for
a touchdown on the final play of
the first half for the 49ers
(2-4), who went ahead 26-17 in
the third quarter. They couldn’t
sustain that momentum in their
third straight loss against a
Philadelphia defense that
repeatedly made stunning plays
in the final minutes...more

The Philadelphia Eagles looked like they could be one of the
NFL's elite teams before stumbling in their last two games. Injuries to Brian
Westbrook aren't helping their cause.
The Eagles could be missing their star running back for the second time in three
weeks Sunday when they visit the San Francisco 49ers in hopes of avoiding a
third straight defeat and an even bigger deficit in the loaded NFC East.
Westbrook returned from a one-game absence due to an ankle injury last Sunday,
finishing with 33 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries and six catches for 51
yards in Philadelphia's 23-17 home loss to Washington. He played the entire game
despite breaking two ribs, which could sideline him this week.
"I am just trying to get healthy enough to play and get to the point where the
pain is not as strong and try to get out there on the field," Westbrook said
Wednesday after missing practice again....
The Eagles lost at home,
23-17, to the Redskins last Sunday and have now dropped two straight and
three of their last four since beating the Rams handily (38-3) in Week
1. Philadelphia averaged 37.5 ppg in its first two games of 2008 and
just 17.3 ppg in the last three contests
In winning three of the last four meetings
with the Niners, Philadelphia has outscored San Francisco by a combined
146-75
J.T O'Sullivan has been sacked 20 times
already in 2008 — most among all QBs in the league. The Eagles have
sacked opposing quarterbacks 18 times this season (tied with Pittsburgh
for most in the NFL).
The Niners lost, 30-21, to the Patriots
at home in Week 5, their fourth loss in the last five games against an
AFC opponent. San Francisco is 3-5 at home vs. its NFC foes since the
beginning of 2007
49ers' Spikes ready to show Eagles they missed out
International Herald Tribune
But Spikes still sees himself as an elite NFL linebacker, no
matter what team is lucky enough to employ him — and his early success with the
49ers suggests ...
