Drew Brees put
on a clinic JaMarcus Russell
would be wise to study.
Connecting on 87 percent of his
throws, Brees passed for 320
yards and three touchdowns, and
the New Orleans Saints routed
the Oakland Raiders 34-3 Sunday.
Oakland’s Tom Cable spent his
NFL head coaching debut watching
in frustration as Russell
completed only 13 of 35 passes
for 159 yards, while throwing an
interception and fumbling.
Reggie Bush scored two TDs on a
3-yard run and 15-yard
reception. His 21-yard reception
in the first quarter gave him
200 catches through the first 34
games of his young career, tying
him with Arizona receiver Anquan
Boldin as the quickest NFL
players to reach 200
receptions...

Preview:
Oakland Raiders owner Al Davis shook up his organization again
by firing coach Lane Kiffin at the end of last month. It remains to be seen,
however, if the move will help turn the struggling team around.
Following a bye week, the Raiders play their first game under interim coach Tom
Cable when they visit the New Orleans Saints on Sunday.
After several reports predicted Kiffin's firing, Davis made it official on Sept.
30. The Raiders (1-3) claimed that Kiffin was dismissed for cause, and thus
would not pay him for the remainder of the three-year deal worth about $6
million he signed when he took the job prior to last season.
Davis publicly lamented his decision to hire Kiffin, detailing acts of what he
called insubordination.
"I just couldn't go on much longer with what I would call the propaganda, the
lying that had been going on for weeks and months and a year and time," said
Davis, adding that the move was based more on Kiffin's criticisms of the
franchise than it was Oakland's poor start....
RAIDERS: After
watching the Saints suffocate an excellent Minneosta running game in the
Superdome, the Raiders aren't likely to go run-run-pass as often as they
have through the first three games of the season, and will look to throw
more often on first- and second-down with Greg Knapp calling the plays.
Should the passing game loosen things up, Cable said he is a firm
believer in running the ball in the second half...FULL

SAINTS: Even
though they rank 29th in the league with just 80.6 rushing yards per
game, the Saints may try to get the running game going against an active
Raiders' front seven. The Raiders have recorded 12 sacks in four games,
so keeping them honest against a Saints' offensive line that wasn't at
its best in a loss to Minnesota on Monday night will be a key to Drew
Brees having the time to get the ball down the field without being
harassed as much...FULL
