Rested and rusty
after a bye week, the New York
Jets made just enough plays to
beat the winless Cincinnati
Bengals.
Thomas Jones ran for two
touchdowns, including a 1-yarder
late in the game, and caught a
pass from Brett Favre for a
score as the Jets beat the
Bengals 26-14 on Sunday.
The Jets (3-2) improved to 3-0
in games immediately following a
bye under coach Eric Mangini,
but this one was far from easy.
With New York holding a
tentative 20-14 lead late in the
game, the Jets needed a 10-play,
41-yard drive by Favre that ate
up the clock and sealed the
victory over the Bengals

Preview:
It appears to have taken Brett Favre only four games with the
New York Jets to erase the culture of losing that came with last year's 4-12
squad. It is uncertain if Cincinnati Bengals coach Marvin Lewis can overcome
that same problem with his young team.
Coming off one of the best games of his storied career, Favre tries to get the
Jets back over .500 as they host the winless Bengals on Sunday.
The Jets (2-2) spent the bye week getting healthy and trying to find ways to
further the momentum from their 56-35 victory over Arizona on Sept. 28. Favre -
in his 18th year - set a career high and equaled a franchise record with six
touchdown passes as the Jets raced to a 34-0 halftime lead and had a few nervous
moments before putting the game out of reach with his final scoring toss, a
24-yarder to Dustin Keller with 1:54 left...
BENGALS: The
Bengals want to run the ball better than they have all season, coach
Marvin Lewis said Wednesday. The Bengals would like to limit the amount
of time Brett Favre and his receivers have on the field. They have been
poor against the run and expect the Jets to run hard at them with Thomas
Jones...FULL
STORY
JETS: The Jets
have struggled running the ball the past two games, but that figures to
change here as Cincinnati has been pushed around up front, allowing 4.5
yards per carry. Look for them to try to get Thomas Jones established
early on the ground. The Cincinnati defense hasn't made many big plays
against the pass, either, with only three sacks and two interceptions in
five games. On defense, the Jets must contain WRs T.J. Houshmandzadeh
and Chad Ocho Cinco, who totaled seven receptions for 145 yards in last
year's win by the Bengals...FULL
