Bears’ Orton has
career day in 34-7 win over Lions
Kyle Orton looked like a star against the Detroit Lions.
Again.
Orton set career highs in yards passing, completions and quarterback rating
while throwing two touchdowns to lead the Chicago Bears to a 34-7 win over
Detroit on Sunday.
He was 24-of-34 for 334 yards and had a 121.4 rating, improving to 3-0 against
Detroit.
Like many NFL players, Orton loves playing the Lions.
“Yeah, I do for some reason,” he acknowledged.
Orton surpassed his previous bests of 22 completions and 268 yards passing— both
of which he reached last month against Tampa Bay—and a 103.3 rating, which he
set in a 38-6 win over the Lions at home in 2005.
Chicago (3-2) broke a first-place tie with the Green Bay Packers, who lost at
home to Atlanta, to lead the lackluster NFC North with about one-third of the
season completed...more

Preview:
After two disappointing losses, the Chicago Bears may have
turned around their season last week with a thrilling defensive stand in a
surprising win.
The Detroit Lions, meanwhile, hope a major shake-up in the front office can get
their season on track.
The Bears look to build on their latest victory on Sunday when they visit the
winless Lions, who play their first game in eight years without Matt Millen as
the team's president.
Chicago (2-2) opened the season in impressive fashion with a 29-13 victory at
Indianapolis, but followed that stunning win with a couple of flops.
The Bears blew a 14-point lead in a 20-17 loss at Carolina in Week 2 and had a
10-point advantage vanish in the closing minutes of regulation in a 27-24
overtime loss to Tampa Bay in Week 3. Last Sunday night against Philadelphia,
Chicago's four-point lead was in danger, but the defense came up with an
impressive stand...more
Inside the Game Plans:
Notable:
BEARS: The Bears
get off the bus running the football and the Lions are dead last in the
NFL in rushing yards and average gain per rush allowed, so there should
be plenty of carries left over for ex-Lion and current Bears backup RB
Kevin Jones, even after rookie Matt Forte gets his usual 23 or so
carries per game. But the Bears have not hesitated to throw the ball
when defenses sell out to stop the run, and Kyle Orton has five TD
passes in the past two games...FULL
STORY
LIONS: The Lions
cannot afford to dig themselves another deep hole. In their first two
games, they fell behind, 21-0. In their third game, they fell behind,
21-3. They need to be more aggressive on offense to put up points early,
getting the ball to wide receivers Calvin Johnson and Roy Williams. The
defense must be more aggressive to harass quarterback Kyle Orton,
blitzing more often, because the four-man rush has not worked. The Lions
have only three sacks in three games...FULL
STORY
The Lions are one of four remaining winless NFL teams, joining the
Bengals, Rams, and Texans.
Matt
Forte had his lowest output of the season last weekend (43 yards), but
still leads all NFL rookies with 347 yards on the ground in 2008
Detroit is last in NFL total defense
(430.3 yards per game), rushing defense (207.7 yards per game), scoring
defense (37.7 points per game), yards allowed per rush (5.6), turnover
margin (-5), and is one of two teams that has yet to record an
interception (Dallas).
