It didn’t seem
like 11 months to Brian Waters
since Kansas City’s last
victory.
“It seemed like 10 years,” said
the veteran left guard, grinning
ear-to-ear. “It’s a sigh of
relief to be able to have a
little bit of joy in your life.”
Larry Johnson, two weeks after
complaining that he was being
phased out, ran for 198 yards
and two touchdowns to lead the
previously winless Chiefs past
the previously unbeaten Broncos
33-19 Sunday, snapping a
franchise-record 12-game losing
streak.
“It’s like getting the whole
world off your back,” said
rookie cornerback Brandon
Flowers, whose 37-yard fumble
return set up Johnson’s 1-yard
TD run. “Twelve games, that’s
real tough.”...

The 0-3 Chiefs have scored just 34 points this season while
building on a league-worst 12-game losing streak. The 3-0 Broncos have scored
41, 39 and 34 points in wins over Oakland, San Diego and New Orleans,
respectively. KC, which hasn’t held a lead all season, would seem overmatched
here
The Chiefs, who were borderline noncompetitive against weak
sisters Oakland and Atlanta, are now looking at a brutal eight-game stretch
against teams that figure to be playoff contenders.
Off to their best start in five years, the Denver Broncos have
used a high-powered offense to bail out one of the league's most vulnerable
defenses. Their defense likely won't have the same troubles this week.
The Broncos look to remain undefeated on Sunday when they visit the stumbling
Kansas City Chiefs, who try to avoid extending their franchise-record losing
streak to 13 games...more
Inside the Game Plans:
Notable:
BRONCOS: The
Broncos will load up the box and force the Chiefs to pass the ball.
Damon Huard gives Kansas City a better chance to move the ball in the
air, and pass defense has been a weakness for Denver, but the Broncos
will probably be willing to take the chance rather than giving Larry
Johnson running lanes. Offensively, the Broncos should be able to do
whatever they wish. Kansas City has been poor against the run and the
pass so far this season...FULL

CHIEFS: Control
the ball. Kansas City has to find a way to keep Denver's high-powered
offense off the field, as the Chiefs defense just can't match up with
the Broncos' firepower. Larry Johnson and Jamaal Charles must run the
ball effectively, likely against eight-man fronts, or do something with
short passes. Kansas City receivers are seeing a lot of man coverage,
but still not beating it. They've got to get open and give Damon Huard
targets...FULL

Kansas City continued its futility with a 38-14 loss in Atlanta last
Sunday. Dating to last season, the Chiefs have now dropped 12
consecutive games overall (a franchise record).

Gonzalez keeps faith with luckless Chiefs

That’s what makes the current state of the Chiefs tough to
swallow for Gonzalez, a veteran tight end. Sunday, the Chiefs will host the
