Seahawks roll over Rams, 37-13

Leave it to Pro Bowl quarterback Matt Hasselbeck to use a little physical comedy to get his winless Seahawks going—against a team that is a sad punch line right now.

Julius Jones ran for 140 yards on 22 carries and a touchdown when Hasselbeck threw a madcap block, and T.J. Duckett had his first two-touchdown rushing day in four years as Seattle sidestepped six injuries at wide receiver and rolled over the malfunctioning St. Louis Rams 37-13 on Sunday.

The Seahawks (1-2) cruised into its bye week with the promise of a return to health. Despite a calamitous September, the Seahawks are just one game out of the lead in the NFC West they have won four years in a row.

And they couldn’t stop laughing at Hasselbeck’s roller-derby move in the open field.

“When he thinks it’s a great block, it’s kind of a car crash,” coach Mike Holmgren said...more

A rash of injuries to their wide receivers has forced the Seattle Seahawks to bring back a talented player with a checkered past. They not only hope Koren Robinson has truly turned his life around this time, but that he can help them avoid their first 0-3 start in six years.

After apparently conquering his personal demons once again, Robinson leads the injury-wracked Seahawks against the inept St. Louis Rams on Sunday in a matchup pitting the NFL's two worst defenses.

Seattle has already lost six receivers due to injury, including Nate Burleson, Ben Obomanu and Logan Payne for the season. Veterans Deion Branch and Bobby Engram have yet to play, and are not expected to return until after the bye week later this month. Backup quarterback Seneca Wallace - pressed into service as a receiver - will miss the next month after injuring his calf last week during pre-game warmups.

To shore up the position, Seattle acquired Keary Colbert from Denver for a reported fifth-round draft pick on Tuesday. The Seahawks then agreed to a one-year contract with Robinson, who immediately becomes quarterback Matt Hasselbeck's top target again...more

Inside the Game Plans: Notable:
RAMS: For the Rams, the plan remains the same. The question is whether they can carry it out. Offensively, they have been woeful on first down, which has created too many second- and third-and longs. They have to find a way to use RB Steven Jackson early and often. Controlling the ball will take some of the pressure off the defense, which has generated little pass rush and led to big plays in the passing game... FULL STORY

SEAHAWKS: Seattle's defense, giving up 33.5 points a game, needs to harass QB Marc Bulger as it did in both games last season and force him into mistakes. They knocked him out of the first game last year with a concussion. Seattle has forced only one turnover this year. Offensively, they need to get the running game going again to loosen things up for the new wide receivers... FULL STORY

Seattle has swept St. Louis in each of the last three seasons (six straight wins overall) -- four of those six games were decided by six points or less.

Steven Jackson has had one rushing touchdown in five of his last six games against Seattle, including one in three straight meetings. Jackson's five career TDs against Seattle are the most in his career against any opponent

Matt Hasselbeck had a 53.9 rating against Buffalo in Week 1 and posted a 42.5 rating in Week 2 against San Francisco
