Philip Rivers, LaDainian Tomlinson and the rest of the San Diego
Chargers simply left no doubt.
Frustrated by two gut-wrenching losses, the Chargers raced past nemesis Brett
Favre and the New York Jets for a 48-29 victory Monday night in a wild game
befitting two original AFL teams.
Rivers threw three touchdown passes, Tomlinson scored his first two TDs of the
season and San Diego finally got back at Favre after all these years. They
sacked him four times and intercepted him twice, including a 52-yard return for
a score by All-Pro cornerback Antonio Cromartie.
Favre always seemed to come up big on Monday nights with Green Bay. This night,
though, he finally lost to the Chargers after beating them five straight times
dating to 1993....

Preview:
Had two plays gone
differently in their
first two games, the San
Diego Chargers might be
undefeated and alone
atop the AFC West.
Instead, they need a
victory over the team
led by the most prolific
passer in NFL history to
avoid falling to 0-3.
After being on the wrong
end of an officiating
blunder that cost them a
win, the Chargers will
try to bounce back
Monday night when they
host Brett Favre and the
New York Jets.
San Diego (0-2) lost on
the final play of their
home opener against
Carolina, falling 26-24
on Jake Delhomme's
touchdown pass as time
expired. That was a
heartbreaking defeat,
but it didn't compare to
what happened last
Sunday in the Chargers'
first road game...more
Inside the Game Plans:
Notable:
JETS: The Jets'
play-calling after a first-and-goal at the New England 3 on Sunday was
repetitive, as they tried three straight running plays with Thomas
Jones.
The questions from reporters since then have been equally repetitive,
something quarterback Brett Favre noticed Wednesday.
"It was frustrating that we didn't get the ball in" the end zone, he
said. "Hopefully, these questions will subside at some point. I have the
utmost confidence in our offensive line. Would I liked to have thrown
it? Sure, I would, but I would much rather get the ball in, whether it
be running or throwing. Any quarterback who would sit up in front of you
right now and tell you, in that situation, he didn't want to throw the
ball would be lying."...

CHARGERS:
LaDainian Tomlinson looked fast. He looked quick. He had the burst in
that has made him one of the top running backs in NFL history.
But it all came after practice when he was joking with tight end
Antonio Gates. Tomlinson, who was restricted to 10 carries in Sunday's
loss to Denver, didn't practice on Wednesday as the Chargers continue
preparations for Monday night's visit by New York Jets...FULL
STORY
Brett Favre made his
255th consecutive regular season start last Sunday, but lost his first
game as a Jet, 19-10, to the Patriots. Favre had another workman-like
game for his new team (18-for-26, 181 yards, TD, INT), but it wasn't
enough and New York fell to 1-10 vs. New England since the beginning of
2003
The Chargers are the first
team since the 1989 Redskins to lose their first two games by allowing
the game-winning points in the final minute of the fourth quarter in
both contests
Including the postseason, Brett Favre
is 9-1 on the road all-time vs. California teams (5-1 in SF, 3-0 in SD
and 1-0 in Oak). His only loss in California came against the 49ers in
the 1998 playoffs. Favre has thrown 37 interceptions on Monday Night
Football — most of any QB all-time.
