Ronnie Brown runs, throws Dolphins to
38-18 rout of Pats
Fans booed the Patriots. Many left early. The record winning
streak of their favorite team was ending with a stunning domination by the lowly
Dolphins.
Ronnie Brown scored a team-record four touchdowns rushing and threw for
another—with four of the scores coming on direct snaps to the running back— as
Miami shocked New England 38-13 Sunday.
“It’s brutal, man, brutal,” Patriots defensive end Ty Warren said.
The loss ended the Patriots’ NFL mark of 21 straight regular-season wins that
began after a 21-0 loss to the Dolphins on Dec. 10, 2006, in which Tom Brady,
now sidelined for the season with a knee injury, was sacked four times. It also
ended New England’s chance for a second straight unbeaten regular season.
The Dolphins, who lost their first 13 games last year and finished 1-15, won for
just the second time in 22 games. It was the first victory for new coach Tony
Sparano, and it was a stunner...more

In their first game in
seven years without Tom
Brady starting under
center, the New England
Patriots certainly
didn't look like the
team that set an NFL
record for points while
going 16-0 last year.
Instead, they looked
more like the team that
won three Super Bowls
earlier this decade.
The new-look Patriots
will try to run the
longest regular-season

Inside the Game Plans:
Notable:
DOLPHINS: It's
no secret that the Dolphins must establish a running game with Ronnie
Brown and Ricky Williams, who have both had plenty of success against
the Patriots before. Williams has gained 629 yards on 173 attempts with
four TDs in seven games against New England, while Brown has 200 yards
and a TD in four games against the Pats. However, in the first two games
this season, Brown and Williams have gained just 100 yards on 38
carries, less than 3.0 yards per tote. The Patriots have allowed 103
yards per game so far and are vulnerable despite just giving up 10
points in each of their first two games. Still, because Chad Pennington
has had trouble getting the ball to his wideouts, the Patriots will most
certainly bring eight players in the box and force Pennington to beat
them over the top...

PATRIOTS: The
Patriots need to stop the rushing attack of Ricky Williams and Ronnie
Brown, which is Miami's only hope for success. Quarterback Chad
Pennington has won games against the Patriots in the past, but the
cupboard is bare at wide receiver and he has limited talent at tight end
too. Offensively, Matt Cassel needs to continue to be an efficient game
manager and not make any mistakes. The only chance the Dolphins have to
move the ball is to play on a short field, which is only possible via
special teams or turnovers...
