The San Diego Chargers finally looked like world-beaters.
It’s probably too late.
LaDainian Tomlinson scored on a 3-yard run against his favorite punching bag and
Philip Rivers threw three touchdown passes, including a 59-yarder to Vincent
Jackson, to give the Chargers a 34-7 victory against the Oakland Raiders on
Thursday night.
It was San Diego’s 11th straight win over their archrivals in a series dating to
the birth of the AFL in 1960.
The Chargers (5-8) snapped a three-game losing streak and won for just the
second time in seven games. Once considered favorites to reach the Super Bowl,
they’re still going to need a miracle to reach the playoffs. They trail Denver
by 2 1/2 games in the AFC West, and the Broncos have four to play...more

Preview:
The San Diego Chargers
haven’t had a losing season in
five years. It’s been just as
long since their last loss to
the Oakland Raiders.
Possibly the most disappointing
team of this NFL season wants to
make sure neither of those
streaks end Thursday night, with
the Chargers hosting the Raiders
and looking to avoid putting
their slim playoff hopes at risk
this weekend.
“They don’t call the season off
when you’re going bad or when
the odds are stacked against you
that you won’t be playing in
January,” San Diego quarterback
Philip Rivers said. “So we’ve
got to go play a game. If you’ve
got any pride or anything about
you, you’ll prepare and go
play.”
A year after reaching the AFC
championship game, the Chargers
(4-8) likely need to win their
final four games to have any
shot of making the playoffs, and
it’s a necessity if they are to
avoid their first sub-.500
season since going 4-12 in
2003...more
Prediction: The Raiders gave
them a little bit of game in Week 4, buoyed by a nice 277-yard performance by
Russell. I think this time, the Chargers are just too much and that loss last
week to the Chiefs will set the Raiders back. Chargers 27 - Raiders 13
