Bears get help they need from
Jaguars in 23-10 win
The Chicago Bears needed help after a brutal loss. Lucky for
them the reeling Jacksonville Jaguars were in town.
Danieal Manning set the tone for a strong defensive effort with an early
interception, Desmond Clark and Greg Olsen caught touchdown passes, and the
Bears rolled to a 23-10 victory on a bone-chilling Sunday afternoon.
Robbie Gould kicked three field goals and the Bears (7-6) rebounded from a 34-14
loss at Minnesota last week that left them a game behind in the Vikings NFC
North and needing help to make the playoffs. They got some from the Jaguars
(4-9), who have dropped four in a row and six of seven.
They could have used some help from Detroit, but Minnesota beat the Lions and
clinched a potential tiebreaker with the Bears. So Chicago needs to finish with
a better record to win the division.
With the game-time temperature at 18 degrees, Manning warmed up the crowd when
he picked off David Garrard and returned it 42 yards to the 5 on the third play
from scrimmage. That set up Clark’s 2-yard touchdown catch and Olsen added an
acrobatic 22-yard TD reception near the end of the first half, when he reached
across the goal line to make it 20-3...

After squandering an
opportunity to take control of
the NFC North last week, the
Chicago Bears have little margin
for error over their final four
games if they are to make the
playoffs. The Bears look to
bounce back from last week's
disappointing loss and continue
their pursuit of a playoff spot
on Sunday when they host the
disappointing Jacksonville
Jaguars, who are trying to avoid
losing four straight for the
first time in five years.
Chicago (6-6) plays its next
three games at Soldier Field,
and although it might not
necessarily have to win its
final four games to make the
playoffs, that's the mentality
the players are taking...
Prediction: The Jags are
possibly this years most disappointing team. The Bears need to win out to have a
sniff at the post-season. The playoffs start now for the Bears. Tommie Harris
said it best: "It's plain and simple: You win or you go home. . . . there is no
room for error." We'll take his word this week Bears 24 - Jaguars 20
