Jones, defense lead Jets to largest win in history 47-3 over
hapless Rams
The dominant New York Jets took advantage of every mistake by
the St. Louis Rams, making their 47-3 rout look more like a scrimmage than an
NFL game.
Thomas Jones had three touchdown runs, Jay Feely kicked four field goals—
including a franchise record-tying 55-yarder—and the Jets converted five
turnovers into 27 points Sunday for the largest margin of victory in team
history.
The Jets’ previous biggest win was 45-3 over Houston in 1988.
The Jets (6-3) have won three straight and five of six, with the only blemish a
16-13 overtime loss at Oakland three weeks ago. New York is tied with New
England at the top of the AFC East, and the rivals play for sole possession
Thursday night at Foxborough.
Jones had 29 carries for 149 yards, and Brett Favre was 14-of-19 for 167 yards
and a touchdown to Dustin Keller before calling it a day early in the fourth
quarter. It was the Jets’ first win over the Rams since 1983.
New York had two interceptions and three fumble recoveries, including Calvin
Pace’s 50-yard touchdown return. Things were so bad for the Rams (2-7) that

Bill Schuster in the head with a pass...more

Joe Namath, the most
celebrated quarterback in New
York Jets history, had his
career fizzle out with the Rams.
This time, the Jets have
acquired the aging star
quarterback, banking on a
successful transition for Brett
Favre. Favre has the Jets in a
tie atop the AFC East, but his
consistency remains a concern as
New York hosts the Rams on
Sunday. Acquiring Favre from
Green Bay in the offseason was a
gamble for New York (5-3), but
it paid immediate dividends by
