Another great Sunday of football passes by and here are some of
my random thoughts from Sunday noted while watching the games:
I really thought that once someone shut down the Titans running
game that would end the streak. However the Bears today absolutely stuffed the
Titans on the ground (LenDale White and Chris Johnson combined for 22 rushing
yards), and Kerry Collins responded better than I thought he would with a 30 of
41 day for 289 yards and 2 TD's with no interceptions. A 108.7 qb rating and a
win. So much for that theory. This Titans team just doesn't know how to lose.
The story of the year will be the Dolphins I think. Miami has
won three straight and scored 21 points or more in four of the last five games.
Considering how horrible this team was one year ago, it’s an amazing
accomplishment to be 5-4. They are one game out of the East lead and still have
an easy upcoming schedule.
Speaking of bad teams from last year, the Falcons had to show
they could hang with one of the league’s elite offensive teams and not only did
they, they spanked New Orleans all around, but especially impressive is the fact
that Matt Ryan outplayed Drew Brees.
Watching the Colts wins over New England and now Pittsburgh I
get the feeling that this team is a month away from becoming dominant again.
Just in time for the playoffs.
This next sentence is blasphemy and I know it as I write it, but
I really think Tyler Thigpen is the next Tom Brady. He is out of nowhere and
looks like a young Steve Young. The Chiefs are now OK at quarterback. They have
plenty of other needs still.
Adrian Peterson is just amazing. I could not believe he talked
the coaches into going for it on 4th down and then fumbled it. But what a
redemption. His 64 total yards and touchdown on Minnesota’s winning drive were
spectacular and you could feel him put the team on his back as if to atone for
the earlier mistake, it was like a made for TV movie or something.
Worst game of the day: Raiders vs. Panthers - Six
interceptions between Jake Delhomme and Andrew Walter, 23 total points and three
second-half field goals made this game a real chore to watch.
Best game of the day: Green Bay vs. Minnesota - 28-27
with a field goal attempt at the end to win, that and Adrian Petersons amazing
last drive efforts made this today's top game.
Play of the week: Ted Ginn’s 39-yard touchdown catch
between Seattle’s Marcus Trufant and Brian Russell. I’m still not sure how Ginn
saw the ball, let alone got both of his feet into the back of the end zone
Jay Cutler turned Brady Quinn’s big night into his
own prime-time showcase.
Cutler passed for a career-high 447 yards, throwing three touchdown passes in
the fourth quarter Thursday night—the last an 11-yarder to Brandon Marshall with
1:14 remaining—to rally the broken Denver Broncos to a 34-30 win over the
Cleveland Browns that spoiled Quinn’s highly hyped debut as an NFL starter...more
