As "America's team," the Dallas Cowboys have long been accustomed to the glare of the national spotlight.

Though Super Bowl expectations, a cast of big-name players with checkered pasts and the filming of a reality show about the team made that spotlight as bright as ever coming into this season, the Cowboys appear determined to keep their focus on the football field.

After a relatively calm offseason given the circumstances, the Cowboys look to take their first step toward a third consecutive playoff berth -- and a more successful finish -- as they visit the Cleveland Browns in each team's season opener Sunday...more

Inside the Game

COWBOYS: The Cowboys will need to contain running back Jamaal Lewis and force quarterback Derek Anderson into long passing situations. The Browns would be too tough if Lewis got untracked and Anderson could use tight end Kellen Winslow and receivers Braylon Edwards to make plays down the field. Offensively, the Cowboys are going to try to establish the run, but look for them to exploit an experienced Browns secondary with plays downfield to receiver Terrell Owens...FULL STORY

BROWNS: The Browns will need the ultimate in cooperation from the front seven and the secondary to derail the powerful Cowboys offense. That could mean a lot of zone defense, particularly when the Browns use five or six DBs. They could play a combination man-zone with one defender sticking with Terrell Owens and another to Jason Witten while the rest of the secondary plays zone...FULL STORY

Tony Romo is obviously the real MVP in 2008
How does the team do with and without the player? Although you cannot always examine a team without a certain player if they never leave the game, you can judge their value to a team based on the talent and productivity around them. Of course you can judge a player off of statistics, and many MVP winners win their award based off incredible statistics, but it never tells the true story...
Terrell Owens big day helps Cowboys sink 49ers 35-22
