Baltimore Ravens at Miami Dolphins

Ravens play takeaway and beat Dolphins
27-9
The Baltimore Ravens had Chad Pennington spinning, ducking, on
his heels and on his back. When he did manage to get a pass away, they were
often there to snatch it.
The Ravens came up with four interceptions, including one returned 64 yards for
a touchdown by Ed Reed, and won 27-9 Sunday to spoil the Miami Dolphins’ first
playoff game in seven seasons.
Baltimore stuffed Miami’s ground attack and negated the Wildcat, but most of all
the Ravens harried Pennington into uncharacteristic mistakes. After throwing
only seven interceptions during the regular season, he had four during a
22-minute flurry midway through the game.
“We heard all week that they don’t turn the ball over,” linebacker Ray Lewis
said. “But we force turnovers.”
With a rookie coach in John Harbaugh and a rookie quarterback in Joe Flacco,
wild-card entrant Baltimore (12-5) won for the 10th time in 12 games and will
play Saturday at AFC South champion Tennessee...

Preview: At the start of
the season, the Dolphins and Ravens were two of the NFL's least likely teams
reach the playoffs. Led by unassuming quarterbacks, however, each team has made
an impressive run to the postseason. Now, the Dolphins and Ravens meet on Sunday
in an AFC wild-card game.
The Ravens are in the playoffs for the second time in three years, but they
returned after going 5-11 in 2007. As remarkable as that turnaround is, however,
it pales in comparison to the surprising success of the Dolphins.
A year after going 1-15, Miami won the AFC East for its first division title
since 2000. The Dolphins, who were 0-13 in 2007 before beating Baltimore 22-16,
won their final five games of 2008 to become just the second team in NFL history
to post a 10-win improvement...more
Prediction: The Ravens and
Dolphins always play tough and seem to alternate victories. The Ravens do one
thing better than about anyone and that's play defense. They stop Miami's ground
game and turn this into a field goal fest as they did earlier this year and that
will be the key to victory.
Ravens 14 - Dolphins 13
Watch out for this: These
teams have met twice in the last 13 months with Miami winning, 22-16, in
December of 2007 and Baltimore winning, 27-13 in Week 7 this season. Overall,
the Dolphins and Ravens have alternated wins in losses in their last four
meetings, and 2008 was the first time the game was decided by more than seven
points. That would make this the Dolphins turn.
