NFL Divisional Playoffs

Ravens, unflappable rookie edge Titans 13-10

A not-so-raw rookie and a trustworthy veteran lifted the Baltimore Ravens to the brink of the Super Bowl.

With the help of a brutal defense that knocks opponents silly, of course.

After all, these are the Ravens, who love nothing more than to win grudge matches. And, this one was worthy of the WWE.

Baltimore survived 13-10 on Saturday against the Tennessee Titans thanks to Matt Stover’s 43-yard field goal with 53 seconds remaining.

The unflappable Flacco was certain the 40-year-old kicker would get his team into next weekend’s AFC title game at either Pittsburgh or San Diego.

“I just watched on the big screen,” said the first rookie quarterback to win two playoff games. “I didn’t watch it live for whatever reason.”

Maybe Flacco’s reason was simply that he never flinches. Nor does his team, which took the wild-card route to the NFL championship in 2000 and just might do it again...more

Preview: The Tennessee Titans and Baltimore Ravens have had two memorable meetings in the postseason and as two of the top defenses in the NFL prepare to meet again, there's no reason to believe this time will be any different.

Tennessee begins its playoff run on Saturday in Nashville with a divisional-round game against Baltimore, as another chapter is written in the heated rivalry between the two.

The AFC's top-seeded Titans start what they hope will be a journey to the Super Bowl after finishing the regular season 13-3 to clinch home-field advantage in the playoffs. That spot, however, hasn't been favorable to Tennessee in the past. In 2000, after a 13-3 season, it was also the top seed but lost to the Ravens. Baltimore eventually went on to beat the New York Giants in the Super Bowl...more

Prediction: Two of the best defenses in the NFL square off in a rematch of a game that when they played on Oct. 5 in Baltimore, quarterback Kerry Collins led an 80-yard touchdown drive late in the fourth quarterback to lift Tennessee to a 13-10 win. This is a tough line either way at three points so we will be buying it down to 2.5 and taking the home team. If you are a Ravens fan feel free to buy it the other way and take the 3.5 either way is about an equal chance as the predictor has the game as a 3 point win for TEN
Titans 24 - Ravens 21

The Game Plans:

The Titans have a two-fold mission in beating the Ravens this week. First, they must stop the run, and Baltimore's solid rushing tandem of Le'Ron McClain and Willis McGahee. With the entire starting defense now back, the Titans will want to put the Ravens into passing downs on third downs, then hope that their pass rush can pressure rookie QB Joe Flacco.

Like their last playoff game, the Ravens will pressure the quarterback to force turnovers. It worked against Chad Pennington. The Ravens think it will work against Kerry Collins. The Ravens are 9-2 when forcing multiple turnovers.

Watch out for this:

After beginning the season by winning 10 straight, Tennessee is just 3-3 in its last six contests, including a 23-0 loss to the Colts in Week 17.

Baltimore has won six of its last seven road games overall by a combined score of 209-119

Video Preview: The Tennessee Titans may be the top seed in the AFC playoffs, but many think Baltimore could pull out the victory. Charley Casserly and Jason Horowitz preview the upcoming game.
