Peterson runs to NFL
record as Vikings destroy
Chargers 35-17
If there was any question about
the impact Vikings running back
Adrian Peterson was having on
the NFL in his rookie season, it
was answered Sunday.
Peterson set a NFL
single-game record by rushing
for 296 yards in leading the
Vikings to a 35-17 victory over
the Chargers at the Metrodome.
Peterson had touchdowns of 1,
64 and 46 yards to resounding
outperform the Chargers'
LaDainian Tomilinson in a
matchup of two of the game's
most dynamic runners. Tomlinson
was limited to 40 yards in 16
carries.
The game included the longest
play in NFL history as the
Chargers' Antonio Cromartie
returned a missed field goal 109
yards for a score in the closing
seconds of the first half.
