Pittsburgh vs. Denver

Brought to you by Who2beton.com

When NBC hand selected this match-up before the season started, there’s no doubt they expected both clubs to be sporting positive records. That is the case for Pittsburgh whose only lost one game to date (4-1), but it’s certainly not the story in Denver as the Broncos have gotten off to their worst start under HC Mike Shanahan in quite some time.

Denver comes into this game off their “Bye” week, and certainly needed some time off after getting blasted by both Indianapolis and San Diego their last two games. They were outscored 79-23 in those games, so hopefully something was done over the last couple weeks to shore up their ineffective defense.

As for Pittsburgh, the last time they took the field saw them blank Seattle by a 21-0 final count. The Steelers have been playing some tremendous football under new HC mike Tomlin and his staff, and seem to be succeeding under the shadows of both New England and Indianapolis. Not much has been said about this club, but it looks to be getting better under the new regime with every passing week.

As for the series between these two clubs, the Broncos own a 12-6-1 advantage. That number includes a 31-20 win at Heinz Field last season. In fact, the Broncos haven’t lost to the Steelers in the regular season since 1997. Denver is also a perfect 3-0 at home vs. the Steelers in the regular season.

With Pittsburgh looking to pound the ball down their opponents throats on a weekly basis, the Broncos will have to find a way to solve the problem with its run defense. Steelers RB Willie Parker has topped 100 yards rushing four times this season, and faces a Denver defense that has allowed over 150 yards rushing in four straight games.

Spread players should note, The Broncos are 5-0 ATS in their last 5 games following a bye week, while the men from the Steel City are 8-2-1 ATS in their last 11 games as a favorite.
