Cardinals smack Rams around
48-19 to finish at .500
|
Postgame Recaps, Storylines,
and News |
The Cardinals hit the Rams from
every angle Sunday, and the
result was Arizona's highest
point total of the season and a
.500 finish for the first time
in nine years.
Kurt Warner passed for 300
yards and three touchdowns,
Edgerrin James rushed for 100
yards, and the defense scored
twice in a 48-19 thumping that
dropped St. Louis to 3-13.
Larry Fitzgerald caught 11 of
Warner's passes for 172 yards
and two touchdowns, while Antrel
Rolle and Gerald Hayes returned
interceptions for scores for
Arizona (8-8).
Oshiomogho Atogwe returned an
interception of Warner for a
touchdown for the Rams, who lost
their fourth straight...FULL

Preview: Though
they'll miss the playoffs for
the ninth consecutive season,
the Arizona Cardinals appear
encouraged heading into their
2007 finale. The same certainly
cannot be said for the St. Louis
Rams as they deal with turmoil
on the sidelines. The Cardinals
will try to finish at .500 as
they host the woeful Rams on
Sunday. Under first-year coach
Ken Whisenhunt, the Cardinals
(7-8) already have their most
wins in a single season since
2001 and are in position to
avoid finishing with a losing
record for the first time since
going 9-7 in 1998, when they
made their only playoff
appearance since moving from...Full
StoryInside the Game Plans:
RAMS:
Defensive coordinator Jim
Haslett will probably try and
blitz often in an attempt to
disrupt the timing of QB Kurt
Warner. But it will be risky
with Warner's ability to get the
ball out quickly to WRs Larry
Fitzgerald and Anquan Boldin.
On offense, the Rams believe
they will be able to pass on a
defense that is missing S Adrian
Wilson...FULL

CARDINALS:
Cardinals QB Kurt Warner loves
to run a version of the spread
offense, with three or four
receivers in the game at one
time. Look for the Cardinals to
use that formation a
considerable amount against the
Rams.
Defensively, this game will
be a challenge for the
Cardinals, who have given up 969
passing yards in the past three
games. Opponents also have eight
touchdowns in those games. The
Cardinals have tried to stay in
a two-deep zone and keep plays
in front of them, for the most
part. But teams are just playing
throw-and-catch and moving
methodically downfield. The
cornerbacks have struggled and
they're not getting much help
from the safeties. The pass rush
hasn't been great, either...FULL
