You know the storyline. The
Patriots could become the first
team to finish the regular
season undefeated since the 1972
Dolphins. The Giants have
clinched the fifth seed in the
playoffs. They would like to
erase some Meadowlands whammies
(the Giants are just 3-4 at
home) and would love to trip the
Patriots, but the Giants are
also eyeing up a battle with the
Buccaneers in two weeks that has
much more meaning.Preview:
A regular season finale that
will have no effect on the
playoff picture has never meant
so much. With so many records
within reach for the New England
Patriots on Saturday night, the
one that matters most is the
chance to complete the best
regular season in NFL history if
they can defeat a New York
Giants team which also has its
playoff seeding secure. Besides
Tom Brady and Randy Moss having
impressive league records within
their reach this week, New
England seems unlikely to rest
many starters in its pursuit of
a 16-0 record despite having the
AFC's top seed wrapped up...Full

Inside the Game Plans:
PATRIOTS:
Laurence Maroney has had
back-to-back productive games.
It's the most work, by far, that
the second-year back has had all
season. All year long, there
have been questions about
whether New England would be
able to run the ball if/when
weather conditions forced them
to do so. The team took a small
step toward answering those
questions with consecutive
efforts against the questionable
run defenses of the Jets and
Dolphins.
The Giants are a
middle-of-the-pack run defense,
but have allowed opponents to
get well past 100 yards in four
of their last five games.
Depending on the weather, the
pace for records and the way the
game plays out, the Patriots may
once again look to keep the
ground game going heading into
the postseason...FULL

GIANTS:
It is time for the Giants to
fully disclose what they can
expect from QB Eli Manning in
the playoffs. Will they allow
him to "take them deeper" or use
him as a handoff machine to kick
start the running game?
From inside observation, it
is felt that the Giants would
like to keep the ball away from
the Patriots as much as
possible, meaning they'll try to
run and eat up yardage and
minutes. If that works (the
Patriots are only 10th in the
NFL in rush defense), Manning
won't get many passing
opportunities. He threw 52 times
two weeks ago vs. Washington and
the Giants lost; he threw just
15 times last Sunday vs. Buffalo
and they won handily...FULL
