Broncos knock Vikings down and
out of playoffs 22-19
|
Postgame Recaps, Storylines,
and News |
Recap: Jason Elam kicked
a 30-yard field goal less than a
minute into overtime to give the
Denver Broncos a 22-19 win over
the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.
The Vikings (8-8) needed a win
and a Washington loss to
top-seeded Dallas to sneak into
the playoffs, but neither the
Redskins nor the Broncos (7-9)
obliged. Washington easily beat
the Cowboys, resting several of
their starters.
Minnesota, which scored 16
points in the final 5:18 to
erase a 19-3 deficit, won the
overtime coin flip, but on the
Vikings' second snap, Tarvaris
Jackson was sacked and
fumbled...FULL

Pregame Previews, Storylines,
and News |
Preview: Five
straight wins gave the Minnesota
Vikings a chance to control
their own destiny. It only took
one loss to put their fate into
another team's hands. The
Vikings will need to rebound
from a disappointing loss and
get some outside help to make
the playoffs for the first time
in three seasons when they visit
the stumbling Denver Broncos on
Sunday. Losing six of their
first nine games appeared to end
any chance the Vikings (8-7) had
at making the playoffs this
season...Full

VIKINGS:
The Washington Redskins became
the latest team to put nearly
its entire focus on the Vikings'
usually potent running attack
and dare quarterback Tarvaris
Jackson to beat them via the
pass last Sunday. The Denver
Broncos are sure to follow suit
this weekend at Invesco Field.
Whether it works remains to be
seen. The 49ers and Bears also
focused on the Vikings run game
but ended up losing...FULL

BRONCOS:
Ideally, the Broncos would like
to establish the run. But
Minnesota's run defense is
fantastic. The Vikings, however,
give up a lot of passing yards.
So expect the Broncos to do what
everyone else does, which is
drop back on a majority of
snaps. Their only concern might
be keeping quarterback Jay
Cutler upright. Cutler has been
sacked nine times in two games
and has a sore knee.
On defense, the Broncos
likely won't be fancy. They'll
stick plenty of defenders near
the line and let cornerbacks Dre
Bly and Champ Bailey operate
against the pass without much
help...FULL
