Postgame Recap, Storylines,
and News |
The Texans aren't going to the
postseason, but that didn't mean
there was nothing to play for
Sunday. Andre' Davis returned
two kickoffs for touchdowns, and
Houston beat the under-manned
Jaguars 42-28 to finish the
season 8-8 for the first time in
the teams' six-year history.
Davis' first return, from 97
yards away, came at the end of
the first half while his second
return (104 yards) came on the
opening kickoff of the second
half to give the Texans a 28-14
lead.
Jacksonville (11-5), which
already had secured a playoff
spot, rested quarterback David
Garrard and didn't activate six
starters, including running back
Fred Taylor and defensive end
Paul Spicer...FULL

Preview: There's a
possibility the playoff-bound
Jacksonville Jaguars will be one
of three AFC South teams in the
postseason. The last-place
Houston Texans are all too aware
of how tough their division has
been. The Jaguars may give many
of their starters some rest
Sunday in their final tuneup
before the postseason when they
visit the Texans, who are hoping
to avoid losing all of their
division games. Jacksonville
(11-4) owns the fifth-best
record in the NFL, but will
settle for second place in the
South behind defending Super
Bowl champion Indianapolis...Full
StoryInside the Game Plans:
JAGUARS:
The Jaguars are likely to
feature the run against the
Texans. Not only do they have a
good running game but since the
game means nothing to them,
running the ball will take time
off the clock and shorten the
game. The Jaguars don't want to
get in a shootout with the team
when they have nothing at
stake...FULL
STORY
TEXANS:
The game plan is pretty simple
against the Jaguars this time
around -- stop the run and run
the ball. Against Jacksonville
earlier this season, the Texans
gave up 244 rushing yards. The
defense let Jacksonville run
wild on the field. The Texans
didn't fare well against the run
last week, and must shore it up
if they are going to have a
chance to win Sunday. They could
get a boost if Fred Taylor rests
up for the playoffs.
Offensively, the Texans will
need Darius Walker and Ron Dayne
to put together their best
performance. The Texans mustered
only 61 rushing yards earlier
this year against the Jaguars.
They will start running early
and try to establish it in the
first quarter...FULL
