While the Chargers' offense
usually grabs most of the
headlines, on Sunday it was the
defense that stood out against
the Lions. San Diego intercepted
Jon Kitna five times, setting up
LaDainian Tomlinson and the rest
of the potent offense with some
easy opportunities in a 51-14
rout that clinched the AFC West
in Norv Turner's first year as
coach.
Tomlinson, who sat out the
second half after rushing for
116 yards and two scores, gave
way to Darren Sproles, who added
122 yards and two touchdowns for
San Diego (9-5), winners of four
straight.
Losers of six straight
following a 6-2 start, Detroit
(6-8) had six turnovers, setting
up 27 points. Rookie Charles
Johnson caught five passes for
102 yards but failed to score
for Detroit, which trailed 17-0
after one quarter and 34-7 at
halftime...

LIONS:
The Lions need to take a lead

Often this season, especially on
the road, the Lions have fallen
behind, abandoned the run,
watched things snowball and lost
by a large margin. The Chargers
are capable of making them look
bad. Defensively, the Lions must
tackle better. They cannot let
LaDainian Tomlinson make them
look as silly as Adrian Peterson
did a couple of weeks ago, and
they cannot let Antonio Gates
get yards after the catch like
Dallas tight end Jason Witten
did last week...FULL

CHARGERS:
Sell out early on the running
downs with a series of
running-play blitzes and never
let one of the NFL's worst
running attacks get untracked.
If the Chargers can do that — no
guarantee with all of their
injuries -- they can force QB
Jon Kitna to beat them. Kitna is
having a solid year, but he can
get happy feet when pestered. If
the Chargers can pin their ears
back on obvious passing downs,
it would eventually pay off...FULL
