Jets
rally falls short as Browns
prevail 24-18
|
Postgame Recaps, Storylines,
and News |
On a cold and rainy day
punctuated by a miserable
offense, the Jets almost gave
their few remaining fans
something to cheer about Sunday.
New York staged a wild
fourth-quarter rally against the
Browns, but Cleveland's Joe
Jurevicius recovered two onside
kicks and Jamal Lewis scored a
late touchdown to seal a 24-18
win.
Quarterback Kellen Clemens
led the Jets (3-10) on one
fourth-quarter scoring drive and
then drove the team to the
Cleveland 20 after recovering an
on-side kick. But the drive
stalled and coach Eric Mangini
opted to kick a 39-yard field
goal with 1:43 left to pull
within two instead of going for
it on fourth down.
Derek Anderson passed for two
touchdowns, and Lewis rushed for
118 yards and scored twice for
the Browns (8-5), who moved a
game behind the AFC
North-leading Steelers.

BROWNS:
The Browns will be on guard
every time they are on defense
because of the gadget plays the
Jets like to run. Jets coach
Eric Mangini said just having
the reputation for using those
plays makes defenses work more
in practice to get everything
covered.
Jets quarterback Kellen
Clemens factors into preparing
for trick plays because he is
effective out of the pocket. The
last time they played a
quarterback with those skills
was when they played the
Steelers in Pittsburgh. Ben
Roethlisberger beat the Browns
with his feet as much as with
his arm...FULL

JETS: The Jets are
enjoying a defensive renaissance
late in the season, much like
they did last year, as they have
13 sacks in their last three
games after only nine in the
first nine games prior to their
bye week. This will be a true
test as Cleveland is sixth in
the NFL in total offense and
fourth in points scored as Derek
Anderson has been a revelation
at quarterback with 24 touchdown
passes and 13 interceptions.
He's been sacked only 11 times
and a revitalized Jets' pass
rush must get to him.
On offense, the Jets need to
get the ball in Leon
Washington's hands more often,
as they did Sunday at Miami.
Washington had 10 carries for 68
yards and two touchdowns in that
game...FULL
