Panthers 37-6

Postgame Recaps, Storylines,
and News |
Jacksonville's defense turned in
its best performance in two
months. Fred Taylor topped it
with the longest run in team
history. Together, they helped
the Jaguars move a step closer
to securing an AFC playoff
berth.
Taylor ran for 132 yards and
a touchdown, the defense looked
like its old self and the
Jaguars beat the Carolina
Panthers 37-6 on Sunday.
Jacksonville (9-4) harassed
Vinny Testaverde, stuffed
DeShaun Foster and locked down
Steve Smith -- the defense's
most complete game since
consecutive wins at Denver and
Kansas City early in the
season...FULL

PANTHERS: Carolina's run
defense ranks 17th in the league
in terms of total yards allowed,
but it is fourth in the NFL in
terms of yards allowed per carry
(3.6). Carolina will need to be
stout against the run on Sunday.
The Jaguars come into the game
averaging 141 yards per game on
the ground behind Fred Taylor
and Maurice Jones-Drew. So the
Panthers will need to get
physical up front on defense.
That is where this game will be
won or lost. Jacksonville is
27th in the league in pass
defense, so you have to figure
Testaverde will be throwing the
ball around the yard a good bit.
It's vital that the Panthers
protect him...FULL

JAGUARS:
This should be a battle between
two teams that like to run the
ball. The Jaguars rank second in
rushing offense and the Panthers
rank 14 and both have two
running backs that they
alternate. The Jaguars have Fred
Taylor and Maurice Jones-Drew,
who have combined for 1,443
yards, and the Panthers counter
with DeShaun Foster and DeAngelo
Williams, who have combined for
1,276 yards. The Jaguars are
vulnerable to the pass, but the
Panthers rank 28th in passing
and the Jaguars rank 27th in
pass defense so that could be a
draw...FULL
