Postgame Recaps, Storylines,
and News |
The 49ers dodged two bullets in
the red zone late in the game
then made a timely fumble
recovery for a touchdown to
outlast the Cardinals in an
overtime thriller.
San Francisco snapped its
eight-game losing streak in
surprise fashion by recovering a
Kurt Warner fumble in the end
zone to quickly end a game that
they seemingly controlled before
a late Arizona drive forced OT.
The Cards were inches from
winning it in regulation before
a batted pass forced them to
settle for the tie. They then
missed a 32-yard field goal in
OT.
Frank Gore led the 49ers
attack with 214 yards as the
team scored more 21 points for
the first time all season.
Warner passed for a league-high
484 yards in the defeat.

49ERS: It looks as if
backup QB Trent Dilfer will be
the starter for a while with
Alex Smith out indefinitely with
a forearm problem that is a
reason for serious concern to
those close to him. With Dilfer
at quarterback, the 49ers'
overall philosophy does not
change that much. They still
want to get the run game going,
but with a banged-up Frank Gore,
that is not as easy as it
sounds. And they've had
difficulty running in the past

CARDINALS: The Cardinals
defense must continue its
dominance. It's forced 10
turnovers in the past two weeks.
The unit should dominate a 49ers
offense that's one of the worst
in the NFL.
It's time for the offense to
put a complete game together.
That means a dormant running
game must begin to show some
growth. RB Edgerrin James hasn't
had much room to run in the past
three game, and the Cardinals
offense is based on success on
the ground. If the Cardinals can
get a lead, they should be able
to make it hold up. The 49ers
aren't built for comebacks...more
