in 37-34 OT victory over Broncos

Robbie Gould salvaged the win
and maybe the Chicago Bears'
season. Gould kicked a 39-yard
field goal in overtime and the
defending NFC champions gave
their flickering playoff hopes a
boost with a 37-34 victory over
the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
After scoring two touchdowns
in the final 5:17 of regulation,
the Bears won the coin toss
before the start of overtime and
took advantage. They drove from
their 24 to the Denver 18, where
Rex Grossman took a knee. Gould
then came in and delivered the
game-winner with 11:19
remaining, bringing a dramatic
game to a finish.

BRONCOS: With so much
turmoil at the running back
position, the Broncos will give
Jay Cutler many chances to make
plays. Cutler is coming off a
very good game in which he threw
two long touchdowns and had no
interceptions.
Defensively, the Broncos will
try to put the Bears in a spot
where they have to challenge
Denver's cornerbacks in the
passing game. The Broncos are
significantly better when they
force even one interception, and
the Bears have thrown many this

BEARS: Even though just
about everyone has been able to
run on the Broncos, and the
Bears are hoping to build on
Cedric Benson's 89-yard,
11-carry game last week, they
also want QB Rex Grossman to
continue to make plays down the
field. Grossman did so last week
after Benson opened the game
with a 43-yard touchdown run on
the second play from scrimmage.
The Bears credited that run with
opening up some deep passes
later on.
The Bears could have their
hands full defensively with DT
Tommie Harris nowhere near 100
percent and with a secondary
that could be hurting. Three of
their top four corners -- rookie
starter Trumaine McBride, nickel
back Ricky Manning Jr. and Nate
Vasher (who has missed seven
straight games with a partially
torn groin) -- missed practice
