Phillip Rivers silenced his
critics, at least for one game,
and the Chargers are back above
the .500 mark.
Rivers threw two of his three
touchdown passes to Antonio
Gates, and LaDainian Tomlinson
became the fourth-youngest
player in NFL history to rush
for 10,000 yards, as San Diego
beat the Ravens 32-14.
The Chargers (6-5) scored 22
second-quarter points to put
some distance between them and
Baltimore (4-7), which lost its
fifth straight. Kyle Boller
threw for 191 yards and a
touchdown but was sacked four
times, and the Ravens were
limited to 56 yards rushing.

RAVENS:
In the Ravens' mind, the game
will be won or lost on how they
play against LaDainian
Tomlinson. The Ravens held
Tomlinson without a touchdown
last season, which was key in
the Ravens' win. Keying on
Tomlinson will be LB Ray Lewis,
who is coming off his best game
of the season. If he can still
run sideline to sideline, the
Ravens have a good shot at
negating Tomlinson.
Offensively, the Ravens are
concerned about their pass
protection. The line has allowed
too much pressure, which has
forced QB Kyle Boller into some
costly mistakes. The Ravens know
they have to protect the edges
against the Chargers. Ravens LT
Jonathan Ogden will match up
against Shawne Merriman (5.5
sacks), and RT Adam Terry will
face Shaun Phillips (5.5
sacks)...more
CHARGERS: The old
Chargers -- last year's
Chargers, anyway -- would have
seen the Ravens' No. 3 mark in
run defense and shrugged. Soon
after, would have been a steady
diet of power runs, their
rival's ranking be damned. But
with the offensive line not
playing to the level it did last
year, the Chargers can't be so
cocky. So look for them to
continue to try and move the
ball through the air, even if
the passes are of the short
variety out in the flats to
LaDainian Tomlinson or immediate
routes to Antonio Gates.
Philip Rivers had a pretty
good game last week -- save for
the two fourth-quarter
interceptions. That's a bit like
saying the ride of the Titanic
was cool, save the iceberg, but
at least Rivers is showing signs
of getting out of his
season-long stupor...more
