Recap: Big Ben wasn't playing, and the Bus is now an announcer, but some
things never change as the Steelers dropped the curtain.
Charlie Batch did a very serviceable job filling in for Big Ben tonight (15-25,
209 yards,3 TD's) to give the Steelers their first win of the season. The
Dolphins really gave the defending champs a fight tonight, but Daunte Culpepper's
two picks really took them out of it towards the end of the game. Expect Daunte
and Miami to bounce back next week ,when they take on the Bills in Miami.
The story of this game though was the defense of the Steel Curtain. From the 5
minute mark when Polamalu picked off Culpepper the defense absolutely took the
game over getting to Culpepper on almost every down and picking him off again to
seal it with 3 minutes left.
This defense looks like it only needs the offense to score a little bit and the
Steelers appear to have picked up where they left off last year. With Willie
Parker able to run the ball for 115 yards and not look that hard against a great
defense in Miami this team is going to be tough to beat if they remain
relatively mistake free.
Miami's offense on the other hand had a lot of trouble running the ball and if
you can't run against a defense like the Steelers you are in trouble if they get
a chance to tee off on the QB on every down. Yes, Brown had two touchdowns, but
he was held to only 30 yards on 15 rushes. 2YPC is not going to win you many
ballgames. We will chalk this one up to Pittsburgh's Steel Curtain defense, but
keep your eye on that Miami offense to see how well they bounce back.
