RUNNING GAME
  • Getting off the Line as run blocker: Flat back with low pad level. Ability to bend from the knees. Can he get and maintain leverage, control and balance throughout the block?
  • One-on-one blocker: Can he beat defender by himself.
  • Drive blocker: can he leverage a defender, roll his hips, and drive his feet through a defender. Can he finish his blocks and play low.
  • Quickness and balance to execute a down block
  • Initial quickness to reach and get out on a defender to your outside
  • Strength and initial explosion upon contact to turn a defender once you get to him on the reach block
  • Sustained strength to drive your feet and drive a defender that you reach and turn
  • Ability to pull: vacating your position on the offensive line and enter into a predetermined or adjusted targeted hole to lead block downfield.
  • Traps: the ability to make his body small and adjust athletically in a small space, work well with line-mates and time blocks accordingly.
  • Getting to the linebacker on the pull: the ability to reach the second level and get the linebacker.
  • Adjustment to movement: the ability to adjust laterally to the linebacker onto the second level.
  • Sustain: the athletic ability and strength to maintain contact and finish blocks onto the second level.

PASSING GAME

  • Quickness, balance and strength in pass set: Is he a natural knee bender or does he bend from the waist?
  • Pass drops: foot quickness and lower body agility to quickly drop backwards, maintaining balance and proper positioning versus a defender moving towards you.
  • Feet: quickness of feet to maintain proper spacing and balance.
  • Use of Hands: quickness of hands. Getting separation from a defender. Keeping hands inside the defender's hands (breast plate). The ability to relocate and replace hands when knocked down by a defender.
  • Hand pop and strength: the ability to strike a blow to the defender.
  • Strength of pass set: Strength to sit down and anchor his position with brute strength.
  • Slide: the ability to move laterally and mirror a defender.
  • Recover: the ability to change directions off of a slide move.
  • Strength: the strength and base of a blocker to ward off a defender when redirecting his body.
  • Sustain: The ability to maintain the strength and base as a blocker versus a defender when redirecting his body.
  • Long snapping experience and potential: one or two hand delivery. Quickness into his set after delivery. Velocity and accuracy of his snap.
