 NFL Scouts Grading Criteria - Linebackers
  • Read: Ability to read and diagnose offenses pre-snap.
  • Instincts: Ability to react on the move in the flow of action. Ability to adjust pre and post snap. Getting a jump on the ball.
  • Take on and defeat: Ability to take on and defeat a block.
  • Shed: Ability to separate and violently release from a block.
  • Inside tackle: Ability to step up and fill the hole. Wrap up snap tackler.
  • Outside tackle: Ability to ward off blocks, step over trash, and get to the sideline in pursuit. Wrap up snap tackler.
  • Drop: Hip turn and foot quickness enabling him to get both depth and width at the same time.
  • Coverage: Both the ability to get in position and the instincts to react to a pass, receiver, and make a play on the ball. Instincts in zone coverage and quickness and speed to handle man to man coverage.
  • Hands: Ability to make and finish the play on the ball.
  • Blitz: Speed and avoid skills. Timing and block awareness.
  • Pass rush: Power or finesse rusher. Use of hands.
