2009 NFL Draft Top Players - Matthew Stafford

7

Matthew Stafford

QB

6'3"

237

Georgia

The positives are obvious: big and tall, rocket arm, a winner, and good intangibles.  But the negatives are just as obvious: slow decision making, sloppy mechanics, hit and miss accuracy. Despite the negatives, Stafford is widely expected to be the Detroit Lions first pick in this years NFL draft

Georgia QB Stafford has a cannon, and has the look of the prototypical NFL quarterback..

Strengths: Very strong arm, excellent size, good leadership skills, athletic

Weakness:
Decision making, Turnover Prone, poor stat production

The one thing that is the biggest positive about Stafford is that he is 17-4 as a starter and that's the stat that counts.

Note: An article in The Atlanta Journal-Constitution on Friday, March 27th, 2009 suggested that San Francisco is most likely not considering drafting Stafford because he was uncomfortable answering questions at the NFL combine in February from a team psychologist regarding his parents' divorce. The article claims Niners head coach Mike Singletary told KNBR (680 AM) in San Francisco that “if you’re going to look at drafting a guy in the first round, and you’re going to pay him millions of dollars, and asking him about a divorce about his parents, if that’s going to be an issue, uhhh, then you know what, maybe he doesn’t belong here". Stafford later told the Detroit Free Press that the psychologist presumed Stafford had “unfinished business” about his parents’ split in high school. He says he answered no and inquired how much the doctor was being paid for the analysis
