Early Super Bowl Predictions and Previews
Following some amazing title games, the Saints and Colts will meet in Super Bowl XLIV on Sunday, Feb. 7. 2009 NFL Draft Top Players - Eugene Monroe

7

Eugene Monroe

OT

6'5"

309

Virginia

Monroe has great feet, but doesn't stay on his blocks as long as Jason Smith. He also has the knee issues to worry about. At 6’ 5” and 309 pounds, Monroe has ideal size for the position, moves well, and has the intelligence that everyone is after in a LOT. Monroe is getting better every year still at this point so his upside is almost unlimited. Monroe has been a great player, but his repetitive knee issues have to be a concern.

Monroe has plenty of size, but it is his nimbleness that makes him special. He has some of the best feet anyone will see from an offensive lineman in college this year and he knows how to use them. However, his strength (especially in his legs) is a concern and so is his focus. He will need to address those issues in order to develop into a Pro Bowl caliber left tackle, but he has the pure skill to be a great player in the NFL for a long time.

Injuries:
2005: Suffered a patella tendon strain in his left knee while practicing for an all-star game (1/11).

2006: Suffered a left kneecap dislocation during April camp (4/01), undergoing surgery on 4/07. He returned to practice by August camp, but was slow to recover until later in the season.

2007: Injured his knee late in the fourth quarter vs. Georgia Tech (9/24), sitting out the next two games vs. Pittsburgh and Middle Tennessee State.
