Minnesota Vikings 2008 NFL Draft and
Free Agency Team Needs
The top needs for the Vikings to fill
in the upcoming draft and free agency.
Wide Receiver:
It looks like they have found at least one keeper in Sidney Rice but Bobby
Wade would be better as a #3 option and Troy Williamson will likely be
playing for someone else next season and what the Vikings really need is a
speedy receiver who can stretch the field and make opponents respect the
deep ball. Until the Vikings obtain a legitimate vertical threat, teams are
going to stack the box against Adrian Peterson and dare Minnesota to throw
the ball.
Defensive End:
Erasmus James has been a big bust since he cant stay healthy at all, and
Kenechi Udeze is solid but nothing special so despite using two #1 picks on
defensive ends they are still in search of a true impact pass rusher. Ray
Edwards has potential, but a veteran pass rusher could help relieve the need
the Vikings had to blitz this past season. That would mean more players in
coverage and a better chance for the Vikings to improve on their 32nd-ranked
pass defense in 2007.
Safety
— The Vikings also need a future replacement at strong safety to groom for
the job currently held by the 32-year-old Darren Sharper.
