Jacksonville Jaguars 2008 NFL Draft and
Free Agency Team Needs
The top needs for the Jaguars to fill
in the upcoming draft and free agency.
Defensive end: Paul
Spicer was fantastic in 2007, but his age the lack of a right side rush from
Reggie Hayward leave very big question marks for the Jaguars. The club got
just 20 total sacks from their defensive ends last season, an indication
opposing passers had too much time to look for receivers. A young
pass-rushing defensive end who can contribute immediately on passing downs
is needed to put pressure on opposing quarterbacks
Defensive tackle:
Several years ago Marcus Stroud and John Henderson were as potent a
combination at this position as there was in the league. But that was then
and this is now. There's not enough quality backup other than Derek Landri,
who had a good rookie season, and Rob Meier, who was solid at both tackle
and end. Free agency or draft picks will be needed to strengthen this
position. They signed Jimmy Kennedy and should look for one more.
Strong Safety - The
Jaguars strengthened the free safety position by drafting Reggie Nelson in
the first round last year. However, a replacement at strong safety for Sammy
Knight, who signed with the New York Giants, is needed
Offensive Lineman - A
versatile offensive lineman should be picked up in the mid-to-late rounds
for added depth
Tight End — The Jaguars
need a tight end who is physical, can run block, and can pick up tough yards
to compliment their pass-catching tight ends.
