Houston Texans 2008 NFL Draft and
Free Agency Team Needs
The top needs for the Texans to fill
in the upcoming draft and free agency.
Cornerback:
With Dunta Robinson's rehab situation, possibly out until midseason with
hamstring and knee injuries, Jacques Reeves is not the best replacement in
the world, a rookie who can step in and defend the pass is needed
immediately the Texans must find a quality starter to play opposite of
second-year corner Fred Bennett
Strong Safety:
The Texans need a dominating strong safety who can play in the box but also
has the ability to cover receivers
Defensive end:
The pass-rush improved in '07, but they need speed off the edge to play
opposite Mario Williams.
Left tackle:
The line has been better, but the Texans must find a solid left tackle for
the long-term. Has offensive tackle ever not been a position of need for the
Texans? They will go into the season with Ephraim Salaam slated to start,
but they need to groom his replacement, and they also need a run-blocking,
pass-protecting right offensive tackle to open up the running lanes
Linebacker:
DeMeco Ryans appears to be a star in the making, but the team could use an
upgrade over both Morlon Greenwood and Danny Clark on the outside we are not
sure that Kevin Bentley is that much of an upgrade
Running Back:
A one-cut run-to-daylight patient franchise running back who can take some
pressure off of the passing game would be ideal. Ahman Green is not that
back Chris Brown was an ok signing but he really just replaces Dayne, he is
not the star they need.
Wide Receiver:
Andre Johnson is a very talented receiver who could
really explode if he had someone on the opposite side of the field to draw
some attention away from him
