The
Patriots continue to work on repairing
an aging defense and the biggest need
was a young inside LB with the ability
to play multiple positions. Jerod Mayo's
that guy. A riser on most draft boards
last few weeks, he went a lot higher
than most teams might have had him. Mayo
can also play OLB but that's where Shawn
Crable fits in. Terrence Wheatley can be
a shutdown CB and also returns kicks,
was a bit of a sleeper with great
athletic skills. But they reached quite
a bit on QB Kevin O'Connell in third
round, or at least we think they did,
how can anyone tell as the Patriots seem
to do ok with reaching for QB's

Mayo is an athletic
and versatile LB prospect with a lot of upside.
He is extremely physical
playing inside the box, has excellent range and a
quick burst as a blitzer that helped him collect 21
tackles behind the line of scrimmage during his last
two seasons at UT.
