Kansas City Chiefs Team Needs - 2007 NFL Draft and Free Agency
 Sponsors

Offensive Line - K.C. has coped with the loss of Willie Roaf, but could really use at least one starting offensive tackle and some interior depth. Center Casey Wiegmann will be thirty-four next season, and right guard Will Shields is two years older than Wiegmann. The line is solid in terms of talent, but the tackle position can be made stronger, and age and injuries cannot be ignored.

Wide Receiver - With Tony Gonzalez aging, the Chiefs aren't going to be able to survive much longer without a legitimate receiver. Eddie Kennison is near the end of his career as well. If Dwayne Jarrett or Ted Ginn Jr. falls into Kansas City’s lap at the draft, it will be hard to resist making either one their top selection

Defensive Tackle - Ryan Sims can officially be labeled a bust, and it's time for the Chiefs to once again look for someone to provide a push from the middle.

Cornerback - Neither Ty Law or Patrick Surtain (both 30+) are long-term answers. They need to get a couple more developmental corners for the future.

Safety - Sammy Knight is solid and backed up by 2006 draftee Bernard Pollard, but a young free safety could be brought in to compete with Greg Wesley.

Kansas City Chiefs Free Agency Notes:

The Chiefs need help in the middle, both on offense and defense. The Chiefs want to play the Cover 2 defense, but for lack of any pressure from middle of the line the backs can't cover all day no matter how many quality db's they have. Left tackle Jordan Black improved in 2006, but is still not good enough to start at the position in the NFL. Right tackle also was a problem. Both starting cornerbacks are well into their 30s. Wide receiver was a weakness when anybody but Eddie Kennison was the target, and Kennison, too, is past 30.

UNRESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: OL Jordan Black; RB Dee Brown; DTs Ron Edwards, Jimmy Wilkerson and James Reed; LS Kendall Gammon; LB Kawika Mitchell; CB Lenny Walls.

RESTRICTED FREE AGENTS: DT Jared Allen; LB Keyaron Fox; WR Sammie Parker; OL Kevin Sampson; CB Benny Sapp; LB Rich Scanlon; PK Lawrence Tynes
