The
Chiefs have done one thing since Herm Edwards
came over. That is to select real
football players. You
don't draw them up much better than Bowe
when it comes to size-speed guys at wide
receiver. In any year that didn't
include Calvin Johnson, Bowe might have
been the talk of the receiver group.
Second-round pick Turk McBride will be a
surprise player on the next level, maybe
even a Pro Bowl player and Tank
Tyler is amazingly strong (he did 42 reps at
the combine on the 225-pound bench
press) and was one of the best values of
the draft. Many had him in the first
round or at the most mid second round. Kolby Smith is a good backup to
Larry Johnson and should allow the
Chiefs to reduce Johnson's NFL-record
workload (416 carries) of last season.
Even though we hate kickers before round
6 its hard to argue with the Justin
Medlock pick as no player on the board
was going to make more of an impact at
that point. Both the 6th and 7th round
picks are projects, but that's what the
those rounds are for.
Overall
Grade: A 4 impact players in
any draft is about the most you could
ask for.
Big, strong,
physical
player,
faster than
Keyshawn
Johnson and
runs with
the ball
like Larry
Johnson.
Bowe
doesn't even
look like a
wide
receiver.
Impossible
to arm
tackle. He
is a the
most
complete
receiver to
come out in
years. Ready
to play
immediately. He
had 38
receptions
of 20-plus
yards in his
college
career. He
has big-play
ability and
did himself
a huge favor
going to the
Senior Bowl
and showing
the coaches.
Very good
route runner
and
downfield
blocker. All
the
attributes
to be a huge
NFL star and
went to the
perfect team
where he can
showcase his
blocking
skills as
well as his
excellent
receiving
skills. Will
be Chiefs #1
by October.
McBride is a
nice sized
(6' 3" 277
lbs.)
defensive
end that can
play the
pass and the
rush.
He can move
inside on
passing
downs to
provide a
real push up
the middle. He's a
280-pound
defensive
lineman who
can run and
will push
the CHiefs
defensive
line
rotation.
Tyler is a
player who
has had some
off-the-field
problems
(probably
would have
been drafted
higher
otherwise). He
had 42 bench
presses at
the Combine.
If Tyler
keeps his
head in the
game and
gets himself
in great
playing
shape he has
pro bowl
potential.
He is an
inside guy
who can play
over the
guard or the
center.
He was a
tackle at
Texas
Christian,
but probably
will be
limited to
guard in the
NFL. He was
a four-year
starter and
an
all-conference
player. His
position
coach at
TCU, Eddie
Williamson,
did a great
job with
this player.
He's a big
tight end. He
ran a 4.69
and had 53
catches and
9 TDs last
year. Nice
pick for
them because
he can spend
a few years
learning
from Tony
Gonzalez and
be ready to
step in in a
few years.
