A. J. Hawk
Position:
Linebacker
School: Ohio State
Status: Senior
Height: 6-1
Weight: 240
Positives:
AJ is fast enough that he can run down most RBs and TEs, and athletic enough
to change direction and make a play. He doesn't have a problem reading run
or pass, and doesn't struggle too much with the play-action pass. He won't
shy away from being hit, and is one of the toughest players in the draft.
Very smart player that won't forget his assignment on most plays. Hawk shows
good composure and is the leader of the defense. Out of all the LBs in the
draft, Hawk is also the best in coverage.
Negatives:
The biggest knock on Hawk, while not a big thing, is overrunning plays due
to being over aggressive. While this isn't a big deal in college, it will
take him out of many plays in the NFL. An easy problem to fix however, all
he has to do is learn to slow down.
Overview:
A three-year letter winner with the Buckeyes, Hawk is the best LB in the
draft, and will more than likely be a top-5 pick. His speed, ability to read
what's going on, and coverage skills will be great assets to him in the NFL.
His toughness will also help him, as most of the people he will go up
against will be bigger than him. He will be able to step in and make an
impact almost instantly on most teams. However, if he doesn't learn to slow
down just a little, he will overrun too many plays.
