Oakland Raiders Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
The Raiders got the best safety in the first round and then in a crazy drop also got another top 5 safety in the 4th round in Darnell Bing.

Overall Grade: B-  They had a pretty good draft but you just can't pass Leinart for Huff.  You don't pass on franchise quarterbacks when you don't have one. Especially after they got Darnell Bing.

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
1 7 Huff, Michael SS 6-0 203 Texas
When it comes to making a big play in the secondary you won't find many who have done it as well as this guy at the college level the past few years in a big-time program at Texas. Huff definitely has more positives then negatives, which means terrific upside that coaches love. He will more than likely end up playing safety in the NFL, and should make an immediate impact...more
2 38 Howard, Thomas OLB 6-3 240 Texas-El Paso
Howard is an excellent natural athlete with playing speed and explosiveness that is hard to find. He consistently fills fast and takes on the lead blocker strong and aggressively in the hole -- has shown the ability to stack the point of attack, shed quickly and make tackles. He is a little bit of a reach this high in the round, but this draft is grabbing up defense first.
3 69 McQuistan, Paul G 6-6 313 Weber State
McQuistan is the type of offensive lineman who gets overlooked often because he lacks good all-around athletic ability, but has enough athleticism, good natural strength and outstanding toughness and aggressiveness to make up for it
4 101 Bing, Darnell SS 6-2 228 Southern California
The steal of the day. Some feel that because of his speed, he will make a better free safety in the NFL, but his closing and hitting abilities lend him better to the strong safety spot, especially with his occasional problems in coverage. He has prototypical size for an NFL safety, with very, very good speed and hitting power to complement it...more
6 176 Boothe, Kevin OT 6-5 315 Cornell
An offensive tackle with his natural athleticism, strength and competitiveness should be a dominant blocker, but his technique is so bad that he consistently was beaten and his man made/disrupted a lot of plays.
7 214 Morris, Chris C 6-3 299 Michigan State
A big offensive lineman that has been a trademark of the Raiders. He's the kind of player they like; he's big, strong and runs well.
7 255 McMahan, Kevin WR 6-2 196 Maine
A big, tall wide receiver from Maine with 4.5 speed and good hands. He is the 31st Mr. Irrelevant.
