They
passed on Leinart, which some say is a
mistake, but they got two good players in D'Brickashaw Ferguson
and Nick Mangold, another instant starter. They obviously wanted to build that offensive
line after last years disaster. Adding a franchise left tackle
just makes more sense. A lot of teams
really like the upside of Kellen
Clemens, who skyrocketed in personal
workouts. Brad Smith played quarterback
at Missouri, and he showed some good
athletic ability. But he insisted he
wanted to play quarterback in the NFL,
and the Jets see him as a receiver he
should be used in a Randle-El type mold.
Overall
Grade: A-
Regardless
of what some fans think the line is how
you build a team, the franchise QB can
wait, it does no good to get a franchise
QB if you can't keep him upright see
Houston Texans for example. Getting the
number one Tackle and the number one
Center and still getting a top 5 QB is a
great draft.

There is no question as to who
the best tackle is this year,
the only question may be is he
the best player in the draft
period. He dominated against the
best at the Senior Bowl. While
he isn't overpowering, his
footwork and balance are so good
that he keeps his man in front
of him and keeps his opponent
off balance with his long arms
and large hands. Should be an
almost unmatched pass-blocker
after a few years in the NFL
with his technique. Ferguson was
talked about for months as being
a potential first-round draft
pick in the 2005 NFL draft, but
Ferguson elected to stay with
Virginia for his senior season
and did nothing but improve his
standing. Plus he has the best
name for an offensive lineman...more |

Ohio State |
| Mangold can make all the blocks that
count. A devastating run blocker that
blows defenders backwards he is nowhere
near as good a pass blocker, but most
centers are not. Mangold has made 21
straight starts and is ready to step in
immediately and start for the next
decade. This center will make
all the calls before the snap and allow
the line to play as a cohesive unit. He
has the desired size you look for in a
lineman, and even better, he has that
nasty streak you look for along with the
smarts to become something special. On a
par with LeCharles Bentley...more |

In an unfortunate accident Senior Oregon
QB Kellen Clemens was injured (broken Fibula)
against Arizona on October 22 and is currently
undergoing intense rehabilitation. He was one game
away from breaking virtually all of the University
of Oregon’s offensive passing records. Kellen is a
gamer who may not have all the skills, but somehow
always gets it done. May never be a star but
will be a very capable backup for someone...more |
