Miami Dolphins Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
Some might say that taking Jason Allen, coming off a hip injury, is a risk. Using a first-round pick on him could be a big risk.  He will either be a great corner or a medical problem.  The third round pick is the same way, Hagan will either be a great NFL reciever or a complete bust. Trading the second-round choice for Daunte Culpepper is the huge positive from this draft class. Tackle Joe Toledo adds some depth and competition on the line, and defensive tackle Rodrique Wright is a great value selection in the seventh round.

Overall Grade: B

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
1 16 Allen, Jason CB/S 6-1 208 Tennessee
e's fluid and fast, but his future still seems to be at safety. His ballistic numbers at the combine put to rest the short-term fears about his surgically repaired hip. Sources have indicated that Allen's hip is causing some strength differential between his two legs. The leg on the injured side is reportedly about 85-percent the strength of the healthy leg. That could develop into a long-term problem, or it might never be an issue at all. The good news is he ran a 4.38 in the 40 at the combine. His ability is unquestioned, and he was a first-round prospect before the injury. He now must prove he is the player he was in 2004...more
3 82 Hagan, Derek WR 6-2 209 Arizona State
Derek Hagan is a very talented player with good hands and unbelievable athleticism. He is not however a workout monster and did not have a good postseason which has dropped him down many boards. Make no mistake though Hagan will be a very good receiver in the NFL...more
4 114 Toledo, Joe OT 6-5 338 Washington
He was switched from tight end to tackle for his senior season and teams have had recent success in college and pro doing this, Toledo was disappointing with his athleticism and production.
7 212 Evans, Fred DT 6-4 305 Texas State
Evans is a well-built defensive tackle with good size and strength for the position. He can do a good job of holding the point of attack on runs at him, gets free and makes tackle.
7 226 Wright, Rodrique DT 6-5 306 Texas
A consensus All-American with 47 tackles, 13 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks, prone to disappearing for long stretches. Quickness for his size has scouts intrigued, but he is a risk...more
7 233 Aromashodu, Devin WR 6-2 202 Auburn
He is a tall receiver with good athleticism, explosiveness and playing speed, but needs to work on his routes in order to become a well-rounded receiver.
