The
Chiefs had an interesting first draft
under Herm Edwards. A lot of
people have their draft rated very low,
however they took players based a lot
more on watching them play and attitude
than they did on combine numbers.
Overall
Grade: B
Herm
Edwards is a believer in how you play,
not how you do "gymnastics" at the
combine. They had Tamba Hali as the 2nd
DE on their board before the combine and
just did not downgrade him that much
based on a poor combine weekend. The
rest of the draft when you look at the
players they took was all about a
culture change on defense. There are
several players here that can help right
away with the Chiefs #1 problem on
defense. Poor attitude and tackling.
Brodie Croyle is an interesting pick.
Maybe the most talented classic QB in
the draft with a lot of questions
though.

Hali has a very impressive repertoire of moves he
uses on the line. Hali has started since his
freshman year, so he could be the most polished DE
in the entire draft with his experience. Hali
finished the 2005 season with 11 sacks and 17 TFL.
He is a natural athlete with good size and speed to match up at the next level. The Big Ten Conference Defensive Player of the
Year and a consensus first-round choice. Tamba lacks traditional height for the
position, but plays with hustle and determination...more |

Pollard is a
junior who came out early for
the 2006 NFL Draft, after having
some issues during the 2005
season. He is without question a
good athlete with tremendous
natural size and strength -- a
rare combination. He has the
quick feet, acceleration and
playing speed to chase down
running plays in backside
pursuit from sideline to
sideline -- he has shown an
explosive closing burst to
finish plays once he gets close.
When he comes up aggressively in
run support, stays under control
and stays over his feet, he can
be a violent and consistent
tackler out in space. He is
surprisingly effective breaking
and closing on passes (both in
front of him and outside along
the sideline) for such a big
safety, and he usually gets
there in time to make the hard
hit right after the catch.

Brodie is an intriguing prospect. He has a rocket of
an arm and all the intangibles you look for except
for one glaring problem. He cant stay on the
field. He has fought injuries since high
school and not minor injuries, but stuff like a
dislocated elbow, a torn labrum and torn ACL's in
both his right and left knees. If his luck
ever changes this guy could be a major star. Can he
put the right kind of muscle weight on his thin
frame to take the beating at the next level?...more |

Maxey is a player
who was a surprise with his good
play in 2005 because he was a
backup prior to his senior
season, but in every game
graded, he consistently broke up
passes and made plays on passes
in front of him. He has shown
toughness coming up in run
support and making strong and
physical tackles on big running
backs. |

A compact player
at 6-3 and 315 pounds. He was a
good pass protector at tackle in
college who will be moved to
guard in the NFL. He was good
enough to start at LT in college
so should become a very
serviceable guard. |

Webb has very
good height, which combines with
good hands so that he can reach
up and pluck high passes well.
He shows toughness going across
the middle to catch passes in
traffic, takes the hard hit
right after the catch and holds
on to the ball. This could be
the sleeper pick of the entire
draft. A poor mans Randy Moss. |

Page is a good
athlete with the quick feet and
athleticism to make plays from
sideline to sideline. He has
shown an ability to come up
quickly in run support and make
physical tackles when he keeps
his feet under himself. |
