Bobby Carpenter is a solid pick at No.
18 overall and gives the Cowboys impressive depth at outside linebacker.
Defensive end Jason Hatcher is huge and could end up being a great value
selection in the third round. No offensive line help until the seventh round?
That was a surprise for such a need, and the Cowboys had quality offensive
tackles on the board when they used their second-rounder on tight end Anthony Fasano which makes no sense at all when
Jason Witten is on the roster...more

Sinorice
Moss was a great value pick in the
second round as some had him going in
the late first and gives the Giants a
potential replacement for Amani Toomer
in the future. Moss can help on special
teams right away as well. Mathias
Kiwanuka gives New York an eventual
replacement for Michael Strahan although
many think he would have been around
later int he second round we aren't so
sure about that. Guy Whimper, the team's
fourth-round pick, is a former tight end
who has good feet. In a year or two, he
will be a starter...more
:
The Eagles cleaned up for the second
straight season, getting talent and value from the top of the draft to the
bottom. We love the pick of Brodrick Bunkley
in the first round and Winston Justice in the second round was a
steal. Third-round pick
Chris Gocong has some pass-rush skills. Massive guard Max
Jean-Gilles should be a future starter,
and wide receivers Jason Avant and
Jeremy Bloom will be great special
teamers who could blossom into
productive wideouts...more
:
The real value or loss from this year's
draft comes from the players netted by trading picks away. Getting quarterback
Jason Campbell last season – in exchange for this year's first-rounder doesn't
look so solid yet, but only time will tell. Acquiring Brandon Lloyd for this
year's third-rounder was a good move, considering he has just as much talent as
any wideout in this year's draft. The
Redskins gave up far too much to move up
18 spots in the second round to draft
McIntosh (2 second rounders with one
being next year and a 6th). He almost
has to be a great player from the get-go
to make that look even ok...more
:
The Bills really did some nice work in the
defensive backfield. Safety Donte
Whitner should be able to step in
immediately and start next to Troy
Vincent. The Bills can take it slow with
Ko Simpson and groom him to take over
for Vincent down the line. Ashton
Youboty was a very nice pickup in the
third round, giving Buffalo a nickel
back who can eventually develop into a
starting cornerback. They did reach a
little though with both of their first
round picks. especially Whitner, as they
could have traded to one of the teams
that wanted a QB and picked up a 2nd
rounder they are very good players just
drafted a little too high...more
:
Some might say that taking Jason Allen, coming off
a hip injury, is a risk. Using a first-round pick on him could be a big risk.
He will either be a great corner or a medical problem. The third round
pick is the same way, Hagan will either be a great NFL reciever or a complete bust. Trading the
second-round choice for Daunte Culpepper
is the huge positive from this draft
class. Tackle Joe Toledo adds some depth
and competition on the line, and
defensive tackle Rodrique Wright is a
great value selection in the seventh
round...more
:
New England loaded up on offense,
getting an eventual replacement for Corey Dillon in Laurence Maroney and stealing Chad
Jackson in the second round. The only
question we have about this draft is
where is the defense? They are getting
old on that side of the ball quickly...more
:
They passed on Leinart, which some say is a
mistake, but they got two good players in D'Brickashaw Ferguson
and Nick Mangold, another instant starter. They obviously wanted to build that offensive
line after last years disaster. Adding a franchise left tackle
just makes more sense. A lot of teams
really like the upside of Kellen
Clemens, who skyrocketed in personal
workouts. Brad Smith played quarterback
at Missouri, and he showed some good
athletic ability. But he insisted he
wanted to play quarterback in the NFL,
and the Jets see him as a receiver he
should be used in a Randle-El type mold...more
:
Ricky
Manning has to be factored into the draft evaluation after giving up a
third-round choice for him. Top pick Danieal Manning is a good talent with
first-rate flexibility. He can help the
Bears at cornerback or safety and is an
excellent return specialist. Then again,
second-rounder Devin Hester has a lot of
talent, but he has no true position
beyond special teams returner which
Manning also excels at so what's the
point? J.D. Runnels will develop into a
starting fullback quickly...more
:
Outside
linebacker Ernie Sims was a reach at No. 9, and he is also a major concern
because of his concussion issues. Combined with the fact that Detroit
passed on Matt Leinart to cast its lot
with Jon Kitna and Josh McCown, it's a
questionable selection, but we believe
McCown can be serviceable given the
tools to work with. Regardless of that,
you don't pass up franchise quarterbacks
when you don't have one...more

Green Bay
what can we say but wow. With 13 total picks, including five in the top 75 the
Pack got to fill a ton of needs. They got so many great young players here that
the roster moves should be very interesting. Linebackers A.J. Hawk
and Abdul Hodge should be a great tandem
for years to come they were our #1
respective outside and inside
linebackers. Tackle Daryn Colledge and
center Jason Spitz should eventually
develop into starters. Greg Jennings and
Cory Rodgers add depth to the receiving
crew and should provide what Terrence
Murphy would have if he hadn't been
injured. Cornerback/wide receiver Will
Blackmon offers flexibility and can also
be a return specialist. Defensive tackle
Johnny Jolly was a absolute steal in the
sixth round...more
:
Minnesota
did some good things with the backfield in this draft Cedric Griffin is a good
addition to the cornerbacks and should be able to step into the nickel role as a
rookie. In the future, he could develop into a top-notch player who pushes for
the No. 2 cornerback job. Chad Greenway is a good productive outside linebacker
who should solidify the position opposite Ben Leber. With
this many 2nd rounders though they
should not have had to reach so far.
Tarvaris Jackson??...more

This is
always a team that drafts well. This year is no exception with players like
defensive tackle Haloti Ngata. He should
be immediately plugged into the
defensive line. Baltimore also added a
lot of depth at various positions with
guys like David Pittman and Demetrius
Williams who is a heck of a prospect in
his own right. They did fail to address
the QB situation but that will probably
be taking care of itself. The Ravens
always seem to find just good football
players Chris Chester is a good example.
He is going to be a monster player he
just has the smarts and desire to be
good which is usually underrated by
teams when drafting...more
:
Johnathan
Joseph gives the Bengals a player to
eventually replace Tory James. Joseph is
a raw athlete who will need to be eased
into the defensive game plan. Frostee
Rucker was inconsistent at times at USC, but
he has pass-rush skills that the Bengals will come to like a
lot. Reggie McNeal is an interesting pick in the sixth round,
especially if the Bengals can develop
him into a wideout...more
:
The Browns
added a lot of depth, with the linebacker corps getting a tremendous shot in the
arm. Kamerion Wimbley is the
hybrid linebacker/defensive end that
Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel have been
searching for, and D'Qwell Jackson was
considered one of the draft's best
inside linebackers. The Browns are
moving in the right direction...more
:
The
Steelers addressed every need. They paid a steep price to move up seven spots in
the first round, but it netted them arguably the draft's best wideout in
Santonio Holmes, who, from merely a
receiving standpoint, will be a very
good slot receiver but not a clear cut
number 1 type...more
: This is an
extremely hard draft to judge. If Williams can stay out of trouble, it's a good
draft, but from every indication that may be a problem long term as he tends to
gravitate towards what we call Terrellitis. If he does, he is an absolute steal
at the 37th overall pick. He can play cornerback or safety, offering depth to
both positions. You also have to realize that John Abraham is a part of this
draft when looking at it overall...more
: The
Panthers always seem to draft well and this year is no exception.
As usual, the Panthers picked good football players. First-round
pick DeAngelo Williams and Richard Marshall, the team's second-round pick, are
both good players who will make an immediate impact...more
: The
Saints had an interesting draft. They did the smart thing and took the
superstar with their first pick but then They used a second-round pick on Daniel
Bullocks last year, and they traded for Byron Scott, so this is a strange pick
the rest of the draft was just OK...more
:
The Bucs did pretty well in the middle and later rounds picking up some very
nice prospects, but did horribly with their first round pick. Considering what
the Bucs could have gotten for moving back to the end of the first round,
reaching for Davin Joseph at No. 23 was shaky at best....more
:
Hats off to the Texans for having the
cajones to do what they did. By passing on Reggie Bush, they made a statement
that they were going to fill their needs and that they did. They got a potential
stud defensive end in Mario Williams, an extremely productive linebacker in
DeMeco Ryans and two offensive linemen who are still getting better in tackle
Eric Winston and guard/tackle Charles Spencer. All that said we have to
downgrade the score simply because you never ever pass on the franchise for
potential, and even if you were going to you just know there was a trade to be
made there...more
:
The Colts got the man they targeted in
the first round, a replacement for Edgerrin James, not that anyone can replace
the Edge, but Addai is faster than James and can block and catch so should be
adequate in the system. Cornerback Tim Jennings and linebacker Freddie Keiaho
both address needs, but they seemed to be reaches in the second and third
rounds, respectively....more
:
The
Marcedes Lewis pick fills a pressing need at tight end and gives
Byron Leftwich another receiving option. Maurice Drew was a stretch in the
second round. He's a speedy addition who will help the return game, but he has
size issues and isn't a realistic option as a future starter...more
:
Tennessee's first two choices QB Vince Young and RB LenDale White have a massive
amount of star power. If the Titans can ease Young into a starting role and get
White healthy and keep him motivated, the Titans have the long-term potential to
deliver this year's best draft class as well as sell a ton of tickets. The only
question is the short term as Young could use some mentoring and it is appearing
like that will not be happening...more
:
Denny Green and company have what may
be the best draft of anyone. With Leinart
falling to them in the first round then
getting rated players in the 2nd through
4th rounds and filling needs for the
future this could be the best draft
class of all in the next 3 years or so
which is how we grade a draft...more
:
The Rams go for quantity and projects
this year. The CB is a position of need, but Tye
Hill does not have the height to be a
number one CB. Klopfenstein has all the
measureables but is not an elite player
then they took Byrd at pick 93 for some
unknown reason...more
:
The 49ers did a great job in moving up
to get two first rounders both of whom are
playmakers and then filled their
receiver needs in the next rounds with
very nice players for the system and in
Robinson a very good risk/reward
prospect. This team is still young and a
ways from being great, but they are
definitely moving in the right
direction...more
:
The good news is that when you are the NFC
Champion the chances are you don't need
a whole lot out of that draft class.
The bad news is that's exactly what the
Seahawks got. Not much....more
:
The Broncos got too cute for their own good with trades this year making a bunch
of nonsensical moves for players they may or may not need. All the wheeling and
dealing got Mike Shanahan the quarterback he coveted most, Jay Cutler, but what
does that say to Jake Plummer?...more
:
The Chiefs had an interesting first draft under Herm Edwards. A lot of
people have their draft rated very low, however they took players based a lot
more on watching them play and attitude than they did on combine numbers...more
:
The Chargers went with a serious project draft. This years class will either be
a big boom, or a huge bust led by Antonio Cromartie who we had rated as the number
one CB with a big injury question mark. Marcus
McNeill is a very solid pick but also
has medical issues with his back and Charlie
Whitehurst is intriguing in his
potential...more
