Cleveland Browns Draft Recap - 2006 NFL Draft
The Browns added a lot of depth, with the linebacker corps getting a tremendous shot in the arm. Kamerion Wimbley is the hybrid linebacker/defensive end that Phil Savage and Romeo Crennel have been searching for, and D'Qwell Jackson was considered one of the draft's best inside linebackers. The Browns are moving in the right direction.

Overall Grade: B+

Rd Sel# Player Pos. Ht. Wt. School
1 13 Wimbley, Kamerion DE 6-3 241 Florida State
Classic speed rusher whose production against elite competition has scouts intrigued. Excellent Senior Bowl week. Did well in the regular season against two top-ranked offensive tackles — D'Brickashaw Ferguson (4 tackles, including two sacks) and Eric Winston (5 tackles, 4 pressures, 1 sack). Came back from sprained knee to play in the postseason...more
2 34 Jackson, D'Qwell ILB 6-0 229 Maryland
D’Qwell Jackson has good speed and closes the gap quickly against the ground game. He is a complete linebacker with favorable size and an explosive burst. Jackson is the type of player that won’t get the due publicity, but puts up solid stats game after game. He is an all-around athlete with a relentless attitude on the field and a great work ethic. Physically he doesn't have everything you look for but his production and intangibles more than make up for his lack of ideal measurables...more
3 78 Wilson, Travis WR 6-2 213 Oklahoma
Wilson is a good college receiver who really stepped up in 2005 after being primarily a backup throughout his career. He has quick feet and, although he does not burst off the ball into routes, once he get moving, he accelerates to full speed quickly.
4 110 Williams, Leon ILB 6-3 246 Miami (Fla.)
Williams had a disappointing year because after flashing good athleticism in 2004, he lost his starting job during the 2005 season and was not consistently productive hurting his draft position.
4 112 Sowells, Isaac G 6-3 323 Indiana
Sowells played tackle at Indiana, but he is better suited to play guard in the NFL because of his lack of size and consistency blocking in space.
5 145 Harrison, Jerome RB 5-9 202 Washington State
Harrison is a surprisingly competitive running back who fights and competes very hard for every last yard until he is on the ground.
5 152 Minter, DeMario CB 5-11 191 Georgia
Minter is a very good athlete with the quick feet and explosive closing burst that coaches like. He is aggressive closing on passes in front of him and does not hesitate to drive through the receiver to break up the pass.
6 180 Vickers, Lawrence FB 6-0 246 Colorado
Vickers is a versatile and very competitive fullback. He has shown willingness to deliver a hard, initial blow on lead blocks in the hole. He runs strong with the ball whether on a handoff or a catch out of the backfield.
6 181 Oshinowo, Babatunde DT 6-1 305 Stanford
He is a thick-bodied, well-built defensive tackle with the strength to be a real force at the point of attack. He consistently holds ground vs. run blocks, can clog the middle up and can make the plays.
7 222 Hamilton, Justin SS 6-2 218 Virginia Tech
Hamilton is a very good natural athlete which helped him to make the switch from receiver to safety so easily.
